To Prep or not to Prep - 10 Reasons to Stay Here in Canada

It is my contention that Prep school is not the route for every single kid in the GTA.

Some of the reasons not to prep might be:

1.The quality of education is probably higher here in Canada. Most of you will not be making it to D-1 or the NBA so that matters. What will you do after basketball?

2. It is very competitive in the U.S. and you may be buried under the wealth of talent in their system. If you are not a four or five star talent do not go.

3. Even if you are a top talent ...

From what I've heard, we have another one of our talented young ballers committing to another Top Division 1 NCAA school. Dwight Powell, the 6'9 forward/center who has been making raves all summer, has verbally committed to Pac-10 powerhouse, Stanford University. Powell, who along with Tristan Thompson(Texas commit)and Corey Joseph(still deciding between the likes of Kansas, Minnesota, Villanova and Texas to name a few)represents Grassroots, had a very impressive summer, boosting his stalk to ...

I guess I didn't realize this forum was here.

I know there are a lot of talented players in Canada (especially Toronto).

We are looking for great athletes to fill a few positions (at prep school and collegiate levels).

If you might know of someone, please let us know. If you give us a call/email I will be sure to explain to what the process is.

Brewster Prep in New Hampshire will be adding some very strong players next season.

These include: Canadian Bigs 6-10 Maurice Walker as well as 7-0 Richard Peters. Also coming onboard Will Barton a top guard who played on U.S. East at the Nike Global Challenge. Ashton Khan an outstanding Canadian PG is also rumoured to be attending.

They return another talented Canadian Melvin Ejim a long and athletic wing player. Austin Carroll is another talented 2010 player. Naadir Tharpe(2011) is ...

Cory and Tristan Spearhead Findlay's Title Defence

Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson will be front-and-center as Coach Michael Peck and Findlay Prep in Henderson Nevada seeks to defend its National Championship.

Both are very highly ranked by all scouting services. Tristan is as high #2 in theclass and Cory has been rising rapidly and is top ten in many rankings. He is definitely among the top PG's in his class.

Last year Cory was a tournament All-Star at the National championship as he scored 18 in the Championship game.

Nothing against the people in the previous post, but I thought I'd put together a different point of view.

1) While the quality of the average high school in Canada may be better than in the US, prep schools are a whole different animal. Parents don't pay 30 to 60 thousand dollars per year to send their kids to a school that gives them the same education that you can get at your local high school. The average ratio of teacher to student is about 1 to 9 in most U.S. prep schools. I think ...

Great New Board

Its nice to see that we have this board to discuss all the players attending prep schools in the U.S. or wherever. If NEDA is folding and the Eastern experiment has been abandonned I'm not sure if we have any here in Canada.

Whether coaches agree with the exodus or not its become very popular for many Canadian kids.

They are our own so I think we should continue to follow and support them wherever they choose to play.
