We would have had a chance to make some noise but we just lost our best player for a couple of weeks with a severe ankle sprain.

I understand your situation coach. We are now down 3 starters due to injury coming into your tournament. I felt the same way as you did but I know both teams will play, compete, and enjoy the tournament.

..that nearly did not happen...

Pope was down 16 points (23-7) in the first quarter against a long, skilled Lockerby squad. Behind Latisha Bell's tremendous defense, Courtney Sinclair's heroic rebounding and Shanice McKoy's indomitable will to score, they fought back to tie the game at 51 on a and-one. They wore down Lockerby with the press. All credit to Lockerby for giving Pope a real big challenge. The championship game will be legendary--perhaps the best 1-1 battle in the city this year with Shanice and Jill.

Pope 24, Etobicoke 12 at the end of the first quarter

Pope 66, Etobicoke 53...anti-climatic final...Etobicoke played well but did not seem to have that extra gear to put pressure on Pope...Casea probably did not have the game she wanted..took great shots, but none fell at a critical time...Jill kept the Rams in the game with key shots and tough rebounding...Courtney's toughness, Latisha's defensive intensity, and Shanice's scoring ability were simply too much...congrats to both teams for a great effort!
