Lebron can tell you that it costs money to run a program. You disagree stay home. No hard feelings.

Then don't go.
In case you don't know, school budgets do not cover the costs of exhibition games and most tournaments.

Re: Mother Teresa vs Pickering Friday October 29
I grew up on night games, I think it gives the working parent a chance to see their children play and also to support the school's athletic budget.
I am planning to hold some night games at Downsview this season as well ...
If u can afford to support-do so if not, like Gill said, stay home and follow the updates on the message board.

Those are the games that used to be packed! We need to bring that back to high school hoops! Packed gyms, fans cheering, school spirit. That dollar, toonie or 5 bucks was worth the excitement! This game will definetly be...worth it!

Re: Mother Teresa vs Pickering Friday October 29
I would estimate the cost of running our program at $5000.00 plus. Our Seniors enter two-three out-of-town tournaments and our Juniors play in Windsor this year.
In addition we will enter a total of more than ten tournaments with three teams: Junior A and B and Senior. The average cost is around $300.00 per tournament.
We receive minimal support from the school for our league games. More than half our games are not supported. Referee costs are close to $100.00 per game alone.
We need to do everything we can just to break even.

Just to clarify - what I am saying is true of Pickering, Vaughan, Eastern Commerce, Henry Carr and all other major programs. I'm not saying Mother Teresa is unique in this!

Coach Clement and Gallacher,
Thanks for hosting tonight. No need to justify charging a nominal fee. If students come for both games...then they pay $1/game, while adults are paying $2.50/game! Not a bad deal to watch these great athletes and programs play. Who knows.....maybe there is a future "Lebron" on the court!
Look forward to a great evening of basketball!

Every year it gets harder and harder to run a basketball program in the high school level. I don't blame the schools for charging admission. Good competition as well.

Re: Mother Teresa vs Pickering Friday October 29
Schools absolutely should charge admission, and they should start doing it for league game as well. Maybe you let the fans of the host school in for a buck, but everyone else should pay a minimum of $2. Why not? You get tremendous entertainment and all the money goes right back into the programs. Also, it costs big money to run a top notch program and why should the fans get that for free?
How many people are making money off these kids? Photographers selling photos to parents, newspapers selling ads, videographers selling videos, high school "scouts" who sell their services to colleges and universities,.... the list goes on. At least when you charge admission, it's going back to the school and/or the team. Then the kids get it - the way it should be.

My Son and i came in from Bowmanville just to watch these 2 schools play(both Junior and Senior Games) $5.00 ? I would have paid $25 to watch these 2 schools play, very impressed with the coaching and talent both teams exhibited. Just wish it was easier to get schedules for teams like MT and Pickering. Great GAMES both of them

Re: Mother Teresa vs Pickering Friday October 29
In my opinion, Eastern, MT, Henry Carr, Pickering, D'Y, Campion, and a handful of other schools are like prep schools. They specialize in basketball and they make every attempt to promote and expose kids. I am not a part of any of these programs, but I would think they try to emphasize academics as well.
The problem is they have to do everything on their own and they do not receive much financial support from school boards or any other organizations.
Kids see the hype in the south and all the benefits they get. On top of that they have Grassroots and CIA bounce pushing them to leave.
As a result, kids lose respect for even the top programs in the GTA. THey would rather go down south and play in some redneck valley school then play at Eastern, Carr or D'Y.
Furthermore, by going down south they don't have to worry about OFSAA transfer rules, which are a joke to begin with.
