Re: Ivan cherios/ Tristan THompson
Ivan Chiriaev? He declared himself eligible for the NBA draft out of high school, wasn't drafted in 2004 and was last playing in Holland, I think.

Re: Ivan cherios/ Tristan THompson
Ivan Chiriaev had some hype around him. He was gettin recruited by some good D1 schools.
Somebody filled his head with the idea he was good enough to go to the NBA straight out of Canadian High School from STA in Oakville.
I Remeber hearing he was a lottery pick.
This idea or dream whatever you want to call it was shut down when he played at the Addidas All Canada game in 04 ( I think that was the year) and his game was exposed to the world. He won MVP in that game and was booed by the whole Hersehy Centre. Obviously he didnt deserve it.
He hired an agent and therefore gave up his NCAA eligibility. (Bonehead move!)
Moved to Europe to work on his game. Last I heard of Ivan Chiriaev the 7 foot point guard.

Re: Ivan cherios/ Tristan THompson
Tristan Thompsons name should not be mentioned in any conversation with Ivan. No comparison betweent the two at this point, hopefully never.
Very unfair to Tristan whos had just a minor setback in his high school career. He'll hopefully get back on track at Findlay, then have a great college career at Texas and beyond.

Re: Ivan cherios/ Tristan THompson
Definitely there is no comparison. Tristan had a falling out with Coach Hurley. Whatever transpired is not public record. Ivan Chiriaev went on record to say "That the NBA needs Ivan Chiriaev". He declared for the draft even though he was averaging about 16 points a game at Aquinas. Ivan let everyone know that he was only interested in the NBA and turned his back on the NCAA college route. Finally, he played rather poorly in the ADIDAS All Canadian game. The NBA scouts knew in about 3 minutes that he was a fraud....some of the scouts commmented that they absolutely wasted their time coming up to see this event. Vladimir Kluanin (don't know how to spell his last name) straight up outplayed him. His stock went up after the game. Ivan performance was so poor it was not even worth mentioning....so much hype and so little in actual performance.
Ivan made so many mistakes!!!!! You can't compare the two of them whatsoever. You can put Ivan, Theo and maybe Jerry in the same category in the "What if they made the right decisions, where would they be now" kind of thing. Tristan Thompson will probably be just fine...just a bump in the road.

Re: Ivan cherios/ Tristan THompson
Ivan Chiriaev (born August 25, 1984 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, USSR) is a Russian basketball player.
Chiriaev had a lot of hype surrounding him going into the 2004 NBA Draft,[1] but was not drafted. Chiriaev played high school basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.[1] He signed with Iowa State University in the US.[1]
Chiriaev was a bench player for Dynamo Moscow in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. He then played the 2006-07 season for MyGuide Amsterdam.

Re: Ivan cherios/ Tristan THompson
I remeber hearing the hype of Ivan and actually seeing him play at St. Mikes during there 4 team pre season exhibition tourny.
He brought up the ball couldnt handle the pressure from the St. Mikes guards or Oakwood guards and constantly picked up his dribble. The fact that he was a 7 footer is the only reason why he was able to squeak by and not turnover the ball because he was so much taller than everybody else that he could juss keep it high. His hands werent that good. He had a decent shot but had a slow release and slow footwork.
I maybe saw him step inside the three point line 4 or 5 times in 2 games. Before the game I remeber hearing his coach saying he may be the next Dirk. From then I knew this guy was all Hype and had no shot what so ever of playing NBA basketball.
I don't know Tristan personally , but you guys are right he should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Ivan. Tristan is taking the right path towards his goal and Ivan was just a knucklehead who thought he was better than he actually was.
"The NBA needs Ivan Chiriev" How could I have forgotten that classic line HA

Look at that roster. Look at the amount of talent you got with:
Peter Boateng -
Tristan Thompson
Dean Douglas
Manny Sahota
Terell Carr
Jabbs Newby
Taevonn Prince
RJ Stephens
Kofi Mensa
Not to disrespect the other guys..but just look at those names alone. Anyone know where Jabbs and RJ are at? And any updates on Taevonn?

He played on the Senior team in Grade 9 when he attended DYouville because he played in Senior league games. After that year he went down South and has spent last year along with this year down there. Im not quite sure why he was on the Bantam roster.

I know a couple of them...and most of them are playing HS ball in the States, but no clue as to where. But I know WHERE Taevon is but I don't know what kind of looks he's getting.

I did check the website. But something does not add up. He is listed as a junior in the United States. That would mean a Gr 11 in Canada. He didnt play in Canada last year witch would be his gr 10 year. He played the year before in the ROPSSAA finals and the semis I watched both games, his gr 9 year.
Am I missing something? I dont know Tristans full story so I could be wrong.
