Jim Thomas makes his 2008-09 All-Canadian Team Selections

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kelly Olynyk - Forward - 6'10" - South Kamloops, British Columbia.

Kelly committed to West coast power Gonzaga in December and has an A+ academic average in the classroom. He scored 54 points in a game in late January in a tournament in Kelowna, BC. In the B.C. Triple "A" tournament, Olynyk took his team to the semi-finals where they lost in overtime. In three games in the tournament, Olynyk scored 100 points and had 47 rebounds. He was a member of Canada U18 basketball team which won a bronze medal in Argentina last July under coach Greg Francis. Kelly is the son of Ken Olynyk, the former coach of the University of Toronto and current athletic director at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC.

I know that Jim Thomas knows a lot about Amateur Basketball but his choices always leave room for controversy.

There are a number of good players who were left off and I am not saying it was deliberate but it's conspicuous.

Where are?

Norm Penola
Matthew Wright
Alex Arthur
Adrian Tucker
Justin Batuteka (Martingrove not sure of the spelling)
Isaiah Swaby
Masih Sadri
Alistair Chisholm
Kadeem Henry
Josh Ogden

So many more could be mantioned. So one should not give too much credence to this list.

JT's list differs somewhat from Hoopstars Canada rankings-class of 2009 (as to the ranking order) eg C - Posthummus ranked 6 C - Kravic ranked 8
Jordan Gauthier is from Herman HS in Windsor On who will be doing a 5th year. G - Collins ranked 10 etc SF - Alex Arthur ranked 5
Some that Tango questioned above that aren't mentioned are also not on Hoop Stars Canada.
JT missed some higher ranked players all together that listed on HSCanada

So who knows?

All-Canada and All-Ontario teams BY JIM THOMAS Empty No more lists please. They are jsut confusing.

The best players have been or will be discovered. No one person can make a list without some bias. It takes a committee of knowledgeable, objective and passionate ball lovers to come anywhere near close to a correct ranking of players

Jim's lists have been slanted toward Hamilton and in particular Mac's favourites, whether they end up going there or not. It's usually heavy with the Blessed Sac team members and there is the connection to Mac.
Several glaring omissions from Hamilton and the GTA make these lists laughable and are rendered useless as far as a recruiting tool.
I'm still laughing over Rob Gagliardi being on the 5th all-star team. Shocked

No self-respecting CIS/CCAA coach would put any stock in these reports.
It's an ole boys network at its finest.
