Post by knowthegame Fri Apr 02, 2010 12:03 pm

After playing in the most prestigious All-Star game in high school, McDonald All-Americans, Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson jumped on a plane the same day to reunite with their squad Findlay Prep. Fatigue didn't play a factor as they displayed yesterday in the ESPN-Rise National Prep Championship in Indianapolis to defend Findlay's National Title. Thompson led the way with 16 points while Cory added 14 in a 65-50 victory over Charlotte Christian to advance the Pilots to the semi-finals. This tournament boasts several other Canadians that are repping their prep schools. Findlay will actually be facing off against Mountain State Acamdemy(WV), another prep school with some Canadian content. Montrose Christian(Md), who's roster has Canadian content with point guard Naz Long, also advanced to the semi finals to face Montverde Academy(FL). We seem to be making our stamp at a high level of the prep school scene across the border.

Anthony Bennett played well. It looked like he tweaked his ankle late in the game on a fast break. Martin Dixon-Green didn't play much.

The ESPN commentators noticed all the Canadians playing in the tournament and said that Canada basketball is on the rise and could be very competitive next year in their national team.

Tristan Thomson took come criticism for not being able to score against the longer defenders in the game. They compared him to when Greg Oden was dominating all the smaller players in college and when it came to the bigger defenders he couldn't score against them like when Roy Hibbert locked him down. Tristan did pick it up late in the game but it might be an area to work on when going to the next level.

They also mentioned how Anthony Bennett has great size for a sophomore and he will be exciting to see when he develops his skills this off-season.

Then people wondering why Peel doesn't do good at OFSAA, of course not when you keep sending your best players to prep schools in states. Both Anthony Bennett and Tristan Thompson are from the same area in Brampton and live very close to each other to attend the same high school. Imagine if these two players were on the same team here in Toronto, then all the Peel haters tell me who would be winning OFSAA.

    JT,

I understand what you are saying to a certain degree. However, what happened to Peel this year....Campion, D'youville. This year was wide open for anyone to win. MT lost their two best players, Pickering had massive losses and as well as Henry Carr. The year started off with Martingrove and Campion being the two teams that would dominate since they basically returned everyone from the previous year. The playing field was level. Campion and D'youville were not fielding weak teams in comparison to everyone else. You could make the argument that everyone else was considerably weaker except for Campion in particular. When it was all said done, no matter how you slice it....Peel had as good a chance as any other school to win in this wide open year and they fell short again.

Secondly, these players improved tremendously because of the time spent in the United States. These players would be standouts....but the Tristan Thompson you see starring for Findlay Prep would not be the same guy playing for D'youville right now had he stayed here. You're speculating..."to many what ifs" and "in a perfect world". I can give you one a what if scenario.....Your Dream D'youville team against a dream Pickering team of Corey Joseph, Jermaine Myers, Troy Joseph, Kris Joseph (rumoured to be coming from Montreal to PHS)...Richard Peters ...he's a Pickering resident..if he stayed he'd be at PHS and Khem Birch....he was at Pickering for two weeks. JT who would win that hypothetical battle of what if they stayed? I'm pretty sure that Peel would lose again.

You got to be CRAZYYYYYY if you think that Pickering team could beat, the following potential DY line-up for this year:

    -Tristan Thompson (Findlay Prep)
    - Anthony Bennett (Mountain State)
    - Kofi Mensa (Mountain State)
    - Jabs Newby (Mountain State)
    - Taevaunn Prince (Proctor Academy)
    - Sim Bhullar (Kiski Prep)
    - Manny Sahota

Please don't tell me any team in Ontario could be able to beat these players on one team. That could have been potential DY team this year. Search up any of these names and you will see how big names they are in States, I haven't even heard of most of those Pickering mans you listed. All of these guys already signed to NCAA D1 schools or will be very shortly.

I don't think anyone hear could post a lineup that could have beaten this potential DY line-up. Closest would have been MT with Maurice Walker, Ashton Khan and boys, but even they know they couldn't beat these guys.

@JT Id take the hypothetical Pickering team over your dream team. Your adding guys who went to Carr but if your doing that you could take the best players from ND and J Clarke and put them on Pickering. Then youd have Leon, Aaron, Norman all on Pickering. Im pretty sure you could also take Justin Edwards too in this hypothetical situutation.

Yeah but those guys who went to Carr lived in the DY home area. Everyone knows nuff Carr manz are from Brampton. I still remember when DJ Wright was huge at Carr and he lived like 2 minutes away from DY.

So yeah those guys you saying you would put on Pickering does that mean Pickering is there home school or is it ND/ J Clarke? So does that mean if they at ND/J Clarke now, they lying and giving fake addresses to go there?? Why didn't they go to Pickering if Pickering is there home school or does Halton let you pick and choose your school like TDSB.

You can't have it both ways, if it is your home school, then ATTEND IT.

If you going to talk about putting those other players on Pickering team, how about we start putting players like Melvin Ejim (Iowa State committed), Grandy Glaze (UNLV committed), Ennis brothers who all live in area and attended other schools just down the roads.

Show me results, you keep putting up all these names, how come none of them have NCAA D1 scholarships? Every name I put up has a D1 scholarship or will have one very soon. At end of the year let's see how many potential Pickering players have NCAA D1 scholarships and we can compare that to DY and Brampton players, that should settle it.

I would pick Pickering's dream team over DY as well.
Personally speaking aside from Tristan Thompson Anthony Bennet is the next best thing on the DY team and the D1 scholarships prolly end there not to disrespect but the rest of the them are very talented players. I hope the Sim you mentioned is not the 7'4 kid. I understand you can't teach height but at an elite level people I don't see him excelling

Findlay Prep managed to repeat as ESPN RISE National High School Champions by defeating Montverde Academy(FL) in the finals yesterday. Both Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph played well with Tristan completing a double double(15 pts, 13 rebs) and Cory chipping in 16 pts along with 8 assist. Cory seems to really have winning in his veins, with back to back OFSSAA Championships and now back to back U.S High School National Championships. His resume is phenominal! The Jordan Brand Classic is up next in NYC!!!

Thanks for the game link, it was interesting to watch. The following team was on the ESPN Rise site, note Doc Rivers son made it:

    All-Tournament Team:
    James Bell, Montverde Academy
    Jamail Jones, Montverde Academy
Cory Joseph, Findlay Prep -- MVP
    Austin Rivers, Winter Park
    Tristan Thompson, Findlay Prep

For Cory Joseph to make the MVP is quite an accomplishment, as well as winning the team championship, back to back!

I agree with you setshot. Corey Joseph has an impressive resume that screams that "I just win championships everywhere I go"....I'm willing to bet that him and his brother cleaned up in public school as well. You are probably talking about a guy who has a championship every year he has played school basketball from grade 4-12.

You could not help but feel good at about the future prospects of Canadian basketball. The commentators were making quite a few comments about all the Canadian talent that is emerging on the Prep School scene and NCAA basketball. One of them even mentioned that a future Olympic squad of Andy Rautins, Tristan Thompson, Corey Joseph and one other name they mentioned (maybe Myck Kabongo) looks impressive. It's kind of cool that the Americans are starting to take notice.

    Now JT,

You are losing credibility now because the more you post on here it becomes clear that you don't know what you are talking about. I know you're a diehard "Peel Supporter".....constantly waving the ROPSSAA/Peel Flag to anyone who would listen, but, you're slipping.

First of all, how can you claim your side would win if you have no idea who the Pickering guys are. You said yourself you don't know who these guys are, therefore, they might actually be as good or even better than your Peel/D'Youville hypothetical allstar team. You've been constantly claiming that your Hypothetical D'youville team would kill everyone and I'm challenging that....as crazy as this argument is in actuality.

The reason why you don't know who Jermaine Myers, Richard Peters, Khem Birch, Troy Joseph and Kris Joseph is because they are all in the United States already just like your DY dream team ..except Troy who is playing for REDA.
You should maybe google some of these guy's names before you make a claim that these players are not D1 calibre. You sound like RealTalkz now...claiming earlier in the year that Matthew Wright is the only D1 Talent out there and Kevin Pangos, Stefan Nastic and Julian Clarke are not gonna do anything except maybe play CIS...lol....I like your intensity but you're venturing into that territory.

As for the resumes.....I got Corey Joseph as starting point guard...enough said edge Pickering. Richard Peters...6ft-10...has verballed to Oaklahoma so he would match up against Tristan Thompson(Texas)..just the kind of big body and size that some critics have been pointing out that Tristan sometimes struggles against. Richard Peters went to Vanier (Scarborough) in grade 9..moved to Pickering but at 6ft-10...got taken by a Prep school in Florida and has been in the US since the tenth grade.
Jermaine Myers went to Pickering in Grade nine and won a junior championship. He got picked up by a Prep school in Indiana has been in the US for the past two years. He's going into his senior year. Troy Joseph attended Pickering last year and lives in the area. He was declared ineligible and sat out all last year. He decided to go to REDa program instead of playing at Pickering this year.

Kris Joseph is the cousin of Corey and Devoe Joseph. He plays for Syracuse right now if you did not know.....a D1 school. He was suppose to transfer in but decided to go to Bishop Carroll in Maryland instead....a better career move and step up in competition. Kris Joseph is about 6ft-6 or 6ft-7 and would match up against anyone of your 2 guards or small forwards. Khem Birch is another 6ft-7 athlete....rebounder/shot blocking machine. He is long and athletic. He was at Pickering high school last year along with another 6ft-7 long, athletic player in Kevin Thomas.....these guys were all at Pickering High School at one time. All of the guys mentioned will sign with D1 schools in the near future. Even though you may not have heard of them, they are every bit as good or even better than some of the guys you mentioned.

Lastly, you don't even know your regions. Pickering, J Clarke/Notre Dame, Pine Ridge, Anderson, Ajax and all these schools out east I talk about are in the Muncipality of Durham.....east side playa.....I don't know why you are talking about Halton.....Halton is southwest of Peel. Halton is Oakville Loyola, Holy Trinity, St. Thomas Aquinas (oakville not brampton), Assumption, Nelson...lol

You know what, let's make one for all of the GTA, I can GUARANTEE you that PEEL (heck don't even count Sauga, we will only count B Town) will have the most players from all of the GTA to have received NCAA D1 scholys. What do you all say to that, sound good or what?

There is no comparison Pickering has had the most talent and Peel has good players but they have never done anything in OFSSA. JT stop talking you BS about Peel this and the transfer rules. Everyone know how easy it is to break any rule for transfers and including in Peel. Anyone get get an address and the paperwork needed to play. So JT it is time for you the shut the F##K UP.

I said THIS year, we talking about, we will see who out of Durham gets a scholy and who out of Peel gets one. We will include players that are in Prep schools in America also. So lets get this list started, only allowed to include NCAA D1 school, no D2 or CIS schools:

    1) Tristan Thompson - University of Texas
    2) Melvin Ejim - Iowa State
    3) Manny Sahota - Cornell Uni
    4) Jabs Newby - Eastern Kentucky
    5) Grandy Glaze - UNLV
    6) Dylan Ennis - Uni of Akron

    - That's just the starting of the list, I can name at least 5 more Brampton players that will have a D1 scholy by end of the year.

@JT a D1 schooly doesnt mean anything. Some kids choose to stay in Canada because its a better academic move. Whats an employer going to say to a guy with a diploma from the University of Akron? Compared to UofT a school thats ranked top 25 internationally. Personally Id choose UofT over all those schools except Cornell or Texas in the case of Tristan.
