HooptownGTA Top Ten Empty HooptownGTA Top Ten

Post by HooptownGTA Mon Dec 15, 2008 12:12 pm

In efforts to create a HooptownGTA Top Ten Junior teams list, I have created team profiles on the site for the Junior teams that I feel will be in the Top Ten (and about six honourable mentions). The Team Profiles can be found by going to the main site, selecting Profiles, and then selecting Junior Boys, and then clicking on "2008-2009 Junior Team Profiles"

    1. I need people to fill me in on "important" games that I have missed in the Team Profiles. Please try to be accurate in final score details and what type of game was played (eg. league, exhibition, tournament), and when the game was played.

    2. I need people to inform me of any other teams that you feel should be in the Top Ten (& about six honourable mentions). Please just don't state a team.... please give your reason for why you feel that team should be in the Top Ten or six honourable mentions.

You can either email me or post it in this thread.

    Thanks
    Rick

    Rick,

I feel that St. Francis Xavier and St. Theresa of Lisieux deserve a spot.

St. Francis had some great wins at this past weekend's Hoop it Up tournament.

For St. Theresa of Lisieux, we are 4-0 in regular season play, we have beat Mother Teresa 53 to 49 in an exhibition game, and lost two close games to d'Youville, a team you currently have a profile for.

    Hey Rick;

I think an important loss for us was the game against Carr A which we only lost by 5 at the GL Roberts tournament.

Did Dunbarton lose to Pickering (midget A) in a tournament?

Yes. 58-47...up by 1 1Q, 2 2Q, tied 3Q then outscored 17-6! in the 4Q. That was also at the GL tournament.

BTW Notre Dame should be on the list I think. They have size, speed and a decent bench. Not sure of their season's results. We play them Wed. in their gym.

Margins of victory don't really mean a lot.

Sometimes for example teams may foul to get back into games and other teams may make foul shots a 3-4 point lead becomes a 6-7 point lead.

You could not foul and the game appears closer but that's the nature of the beast.

They beat Carr B and lost a close game to Pope.

    Great you're 13-0.

Can I ask you something? Have you played any of these top teams listed in these posts. Hmmm.

Prove yourself and people around you that you're worthy to be on the list. You're undefeated alright but aren't you guys playing WEAK teams in york region. Have you guys even faced Vaughan, St. Jean de Brebeuf & St. Theresa of Liseux whom I think are the top three teams in the YRAA.

No disrespect, I hope one day you guys are a team everyone is talking about. Wink

Coach, I like your list. The changes I would suggest are removing Emery from Toronto Public and Fletchers from Peel. Emery has been beaten pretty bad by some mid level teams and Fletchers has one loss in a very weak division. (Your divison, OTOH, might be the deepest one in the entire GTA with D'Youville, Leger, BCSS, and Sandalwood...plus Ascension just to keep the top four on their toes.)

Brebeuf of Toronto Catholic should be included, too.

I think in York there is a big gap between 1 and 2 and between 3 and 4. Not sure if Augustine should be included in talk of the top GTA junior teams.

Also, even though Rick doesn't always include them, I think Halton should be mentioned. Holy Trinity so far seems to be the only team of note.

    My attempt at a top-16:

    1. Henry Carr A
    2. Vuaghan
    3. Pickering
    4. Mother Teresa
    5. Pope John Paul II
    6. Eastern Commerce
    7. Oakwood
    8. Henry Carr B
    9. D'Youville
    10. Xavier
    11. Richview
    12. Brampton Centennial
    13. Notre Dame (Ajax)
    14. Leger
    15. Loyola
    16. St. Theresa

I realize that the last 3 or 4 cold easily be moved around and a couple of other teams added instead but since the Hooptown tradition is 16, I've tried to stick to that.

That's true coach but I also considered the fact that this was their first tournament of the year and they had hardly played together while your team has been playing at least since early November. I was trying to look at where they all stand heading into the Rimrocker in January.

As I wrote, the bottom few could easily be interchanged and I suspect they will after another month or so.

I agree. I think the top-10 is pretty solid but I had a very hard time with the last few spots so I went on gut instinct. I might easily change my mind in a couple of days.

Happy to see that the topic is now being addressed with some solid opinions by a number of posters.

Rick, I agree with a couple of posters who said that Xavier and St. Theresa definitely need to be on that list. I also think there needs to be far more than one Peel team under consideration. I'm not sure why they are being forgotten since Peel was the deepest league in the GTA from 1-10 the last two seasons and also looks to be again this year. Besides D'Youville, Xavier, Leger, Loyola, and BCSS are all legitimate top-16 teams and Goetz might soon be, too.
