Should be a good game. Richview has already beaten etobicoke so the girls should come out hungry for that game.

Not to be rude...but Etobicoke definetly came out "hungerier" cause they were definetly the better team out there without a doubt. Not sure how they lost the first game to begin with.

Toronto West Region Playoffs Empty West Region Finals

Post by coachpf Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:14 am

Those who watched the game saw an incredible performance by Jill Stratton from Etobicoke. I believe she had 30 points and was in total control of the game. Richview was down by about 14 at the half but with 3:00 left in the 3rd quarter had cut ECI's lead to 4. The one key factor here was that Stratton did not take one shot during the entire 5 minutes when Richview closed the gap. From that point on it was her game and taking nothing away from Richview, this was a game where a very very good point guard had an exceptional game. It's actually nice to see her coach let her go out and play as she makes everyone better which is the first job of any point guard. Even though she had 30 points, she had a bunch of assists and made the entire Etobicoke team look as good as they really are. Once Richview concentrated on her it opened up the inside game for wide open lay-ups so she can kill you both ways.
As good a player as everyone says Jenea Barrett is, she better decide to play defense, ( which is a big knock against her as we all know she loves the offensive end of the court and she's good at it ) in order for Eastern to beat ECI. Eastern will definitely be the favourite but it should be a good game.
It's a shame that ECI plays Eastern in the semi final as they both should be on display in the City Final, but either way both teams will be going to OFSSAA as Weston and Birchmount will be over matched by the "completeness" of either ECI or Eastern.

As everyone can clearly see from the entire West regions City 1/4 final scores - Richview 57, Don Mills 10 - Etobicoke 83, Victoria Pk 15 - Weston 68, York Mills 39 ), other than Eastern Commerce, the West Region Tier 1 collectively has the best teams by far.

Good luck to everyone in the semi's and finals.

Regarding the first game between Richview and ECI when Richview won the game, Jill did not play that game.

Toronto West Region Playoffs Empty Re: Toronto West Region Playoffs

I believe the North division was very weak. All these games were West against the North. I believe that some of the East teams would do the same thing to these north teams. It is just the luck of the rotation. Every year teams lick their chops in anticipation of getting to play a North team in the playdowns. If my team was going to play a North team, I would have played but seeing we drew Eastern, I declined because we had no chance.

I agree with a lot of points made throughout this post but as "Bearscoach" said, we all would be licking our chops at a crossover against the North. The West is a strong region this season but to use yesterdays scores to make your point is 100% useless. Games against each other and tournaments are the better point to be made because nobody from the East, South or West would have had a toughtime with York Mills, Victoria Park or Don Mills. If a team scores only 10 points(Don Mills)and 15 points(Victoria Park) against your teams from your region, it is not a good example to boost the region. It is obvious by those scores that they didn't belong there in the first place. I would even place your last place team(Vaughn Road) against those teams and it would not be a close game. The North had only one good team and that was Downsview and they throttled all of the teams in the North region. Downsview unfortunately are AA so we all didn't get a chance to play them.
There are very good teams from each region and the West can be arguably considered the best. The South boasts Eastern , Jarvis, Lawrence Park and Northern who all are very good teams and can beat anybody on any given day. It also includes an Oakwood team that is no slouch either as they lost to Jarvis by 1 point in the regualr season. The East boasts Thomson, Birchmount and Churchill and even though we do not get the respect of the big sisters in our division we pushed Birchmount and Jarvis to the limit and definately were looking forward to the chance to play Richview if we won. Unfortunately the better team that day(Jarvis) won in a very close back and forth game in which we could have won. I believe the West strong teams would be Etobicoke, Richview, Weston with strong consideration for York Memorial (Who did beat us) and Martingrove.
