Re: Peel Playoffs
There are three undefeated teams in league play......d'Y, Goetz, St. Roch
It looks like a three horse race for the title.
I think Campion, Gonzaga, and Xavier are dark horses.

Point differential in games played versus each other: Ascension +12, Notre Dame -4, Campion -8.
Campion is therefore 4th in the North and are out.

Re: Peel Playoffs
This is how the teams will probably be seeded:
#8. Pocock vs. #1. d"Youville
#7. Notre Dame vs. #2. Goetz
#6. Gonzaga vs. #3. St. Roch
#5. Xavier vs. #4. Ascension
This is how the teams should be seeded (in my opinion):
#8. Gonzaga vs. #1. d"Youville
#7. Xavier vs. #2. Goetz
#6. Pocock vs. #3. St. Roch
#5. Notre Dame vs. #4. Ascension

I thought Ropssaa used point differential.....then they used head to head. In case....Asccension would finish 2nd....and then Campion has the head to head over Notre Dame.
Maybe Xavier Rimrocker can clear this up?

Re: Peel Playoffs
From ROPSSAA:
Ties in League Standings
Where teams will not be eliminated from the playoffs, ties in the league standings will be broken in the following manner:
(i) The results of the league game(s) between the tied teams.
(ii) The point difference of games played between the tied teams.
(iii) A coin toss.
-so Campion would be knocked out due to being -8 in (ii)

Re: Peel Playoffs
However, the tie between 3rd and 4th will eliminate a team from the playoffs so the question is whether a tie breaker game will be played. In the case of the three way tie in Senior (central) where one of the three was eliminated, they used the rule that applied to eliminating a team (though the senior rule does not use a tie breaker game).

Hmm, no mention of a tiebreaker game in the documents I was given in the coaches meeting at the start of the season. I really think Campion shot themselves in the foot by getting their hats handed to them versus Ascension. I think by the book, Campion should be out.
Interesting situation in the Central division. Xavier has Pocock on head to head, but Xavier is -6 overall compared to Pocock's very impressive +104, Pocock with fewest points allowed in tier 1 next to Father Goetz.

Thanks for that. Would that mean Pocock and Xavier could also play a tiebreaker?

Re: Peel Playoffs
No, because they are both in the playoffs already so it's head to head that breaks the tie.

It is technically possible however unlikely for Pocock not to be if a third place team from each of the other two divisions is voted in.

Re: Peel Playoffs
It is confirmed that Campion and ND will have to play a tiebreak game for the 3rd seed in the north. Also, there is a tiebreak coming out of the south where there is a 3 way tie for 3rd. Stephen lewis and STA play, and then the winner plays St. Joes I believe.
None of these 3rd place games are guaranteed a playoff spot.
On a side note. Pocock has the second lowest scoring total, but they did only play 6 games. All teams from the north played 7 games. Therefore, I would assume if all teams play 7 games, DY would have the lowest total, Goetz 2nd and then Pocock or campion in 3rd.

Re: Peel Playoffs
The way ROPSSAA has interpreted the rule is that the tie-breaker game is needed where a team faces the possibility of a playoff spot so that means any ties for third in a division.
The coaches will actually seed the top 9 after that and the 9th team will not make the playoffs.
Also, it should be noted that the first place teams can be seeded 1-4; the second place teams can be seeded 2-8 (but not ahead of the winner of their division) and the third place team 5-8 (with one left unseeded and thus out of the playoffs.)

Re: Peel Playoffs
Mr. Rimrocker: How much would it cost to get you to move from Xavier and be one of the athletic convenors? Even the things in ROPSSAA that don't make any sense seem more reasonable when you explain them !

Re: Peel Playoffs
Thanks. :-)
If it was a seconded teaching position, I would actually consider it for a year or two but I would miss coaching my wrestling and rugby teams too much to do it permanently.
