BENEFITS TO PLAYERS AND TEAMS FOR JOINING THE NPSAA?

    - NPSAA offers the best high school coaches in Canada. Unlike many traditional high school coaches who only coach because someone within the high school has to coach the team, NPSAA coaches are dedicated with a wealth of experience and proven backgrounds. Under a good coach who knows the game, players will develop their skills and have the best chance to reach their basketball goals.

    - NPSAA league teams compete against top Canadian and American prep, high school and club teams.

    - Every game in the NPSAA is professionally videotaped and available for all NPSAA athletes. This is a key resource for exposure to college coaches.

    - Complete stats are kept in the NPSAA and updated regularly to the website. Unlike high school who only record points, NPSAA stats everything (Points, Rebounds, Assists, Blocks, Steals, Turnovers, Fouls, FG%, 3PT%, FT%).

    - Certified athletic therapists at every NPSAA game to treat any possible injuries.

    - Access to athlete, team, event and travel insurance coverage.

    - Best alternative to prep school in the United States as players get to stay home, still get exposure (through videotaped games and tournaments), develop under great coaches and play against elite competition within the league.

Fr Henry Carr senior boy's HIGH SCHOOL will take on ANY club/prep team in the Fr Ted McLean Gymnasium.

Make no mistake, this is not in support of any delusions of "prep" teams, but rather a way to raise funds AND show what a HIGH SCHOOL team is capable of.

Just to give students a head up. In 2 regions (peel and Halton I believe) have made a rule if you play on a NPSSAA team, you are not allowed to play high school basketball the same year.

I KNOW Thornlea SS and i'm pretty sure Bill Crothers kids are actually paying NOTHING for their teams to play in this independent league. So where does this thousands of dollars come in???

    Good luck Henry Carr.

Look, I can see a player with scholarship aspirations will try everything to get himself noticed. But it seems high school basketball isn't fitting in any more.

Used to be many high school teams had a rep player or two. Competition was healthy. Powerhouses were always there. A good thing overall.

I question the motives behind all the new programs and leagues. High schools having teams that don't play other high schools???

    Sad.

THIS IS A BUSINESS. Especially for Wayne Dawkins who collects all of this money and runs numerous events that kids have to pay for. The teams that are entering the prep league are just rep teams and AAU teams that have found an opportunity to make some money and get kids hyped up.

Wayne Dawkins has built this up, and has made it more viable for these coaches to charge kids money so they can play in this prep league. I know for a fact, kids that didn't even make their tier II teams last year pay upwards of $3000 and join one of these prep teams.

Bottom line is, if you play at a good high school, with a good coach who knows what he is doing, then there is no need for you to leave and join a prep team. You are just paying another coach $3000 for what you get at the high school level for a fraction of that. If you are at a high school that does not have a good program and you have no other option, then the prep league might be a fit for you, but AT A PRICE. Remember it's a business. If you are willing to pay $3000 you will also hear what you want from people. No one is going to tell you that you are not good enough when you are willing to throw money at them.

So parents and teachers again, make the decision that works for you. Is the service you are receiving worth $3000?

I don't know how Bill Crothers and Thornlea are running those programs.

Bill Crothers and Thornlea are legitimate schools. I believe that having these two schools on board legitimizes this league to a certain extent. If this league could get maybe 6 other high school teams involved and eliminate the club teams, I think the league will flourish. Yes, the fees are very high and ALL kids should know where the finances are going without any hidden agendas. Because Bill Crothers and Thornlea are making this FREE for their kids, I don't see any problems with them offering a program (thats not competing in the YRAA) and giving kids an opportunity to travel and play better competition. If not, what was the point of building Bill Crothers??? YRAA and OFSAA boots them out and gives them no options to play sports. Does this make sense? Why did they build the school then? Maybe they should have built 8 other sports schools across the GTA and give kids different options.

Your point is have $3000, will travel. I agree there are too many teams and programs spreading out what talent there is.

Free for thornlea and Bill crothers? really? maybe got in the league for free, but won't they be travelling to the states? Let me guess, the money will magically appear? The kids will pay to go to tournaments.

Bill Crothers probably join the league due to the new rule set on the school from OFSAA. Students that go to that school can no longer play their #1 sport in league play.

I dont see you complaining about AAU or REP teams they charge a lot of money for nothing so what is the difference.

My understanding is that this will not take affect until next year.
