Under 15 Provincial Team @ the Nationals

The Under 15 Midget boy's team will represent Ontario at the 2008 U15 National Championships in Kamloops, British Columbia, August 5-9, 2008 at Thompson Rivers University. The 2008 Midget National Championships are being hosted by Basketball BC.

U15 Boys Game One - Summary
After watching their female counterparts kick off the tournament with a win, the U15 team Ontario boys followed suit by opening the tournament 124-53 victory over team Manitoba. Player of the game, Jonathan Alexander scorched the Manitoba defence and led his team with 24 points. Not far behind was sharp-shooting Kevin Pangos with 17 points, while Martin Dixon-Green added 16, Anthony Bennett scored 14 and Nikolas Stauskas scored 13 points.

"The guys are all really energetic and ready to go. I felt we really shared the ball well today,” Alexander said.

The team Ontario transition game was excellent as the team compiled 21 assists and every player on the roster made it on to the score sheet. However, the 27 offensive boards as a team ensured that the Ontario team controlled the tempo for most of the game.

[b][u]U15 Boys Game Two - Summary
[/u][/b]The Ontario boys’ team started off the second day of the tournament with another win, 87-40 over team Alberta. Coach Jeff Glovanatti was impressed by the effort put forth on both ends of the court in the first game of the day.
“We focused on defence and are happy to hold a good team like Alberta to only 40 points,” Glovanatti said.
As a team, Ontario was able to dominate in the paint scoring 60 points and hauling in 61 rebounds to go along with 19 team assists. Negus Webster-Chan led the team in scoring with 18 points, while player of the game, Martin Dixon-Green scored 16. Jonathan Alexander and Nicholas Lewis each had 12 points and Keegan Dunlop finished with 10.

Anthony Bennett led the scoring with 23, Nick Lewis had 19, Jon Alexander 15, Martin Dixon-Green and Nick Stauskas 13 each.

Life is about to become more challenging for Team Ontario. Today they face also-undefeated Saskatchewan in their final Pool game.

Then they would likely get defending champion Quebec in a semi-final with powerful British Columbia likely awaiting the winner. All this by virtue of a resounding B.C. victory over Quebec 90-71.

U15 Boys Game Three – Summary
Team Ontario played again, later in the day on Wednesday and beat team Nova Scotia 105 -84. Negus Webster-Chan was the player of the game and scored 10 points in the hard fought battle which saw the Ontario team block 11 shots and score 64 points in the paint.

High scorer Anthony Bennett contributed 23 points to go along with 19 scored by Nicholas Lewis and 16 points from Martin Dixon-Green. Ontario will play their final game of pool play today at 4:30 EST against the undefeated team Saskatchewan (3-0).

As expected the Semi-finals will be:

My feeling is it will be Ontario vs. B.C. for gold.

I expect Quebec to play hard as the defending champions however.
