Andrew Nicholson #44 F
The Father Michael Goetz graduate could have not asked for a better first year of playing basketball at St.Bonaventure University, not only is he majoring in chemistry he also is the big man on the basketball court.
On the season, Nicholson leads all A-10 freshmen in rebounding (6.1), blocked shots (3.1) and field goal percentage (.614). Nicholson's 13.3 points per game ranks second on the team and trails only Fordham freshman Jio Fontan's 14.6 clip. Nicholson leads all A-10 rookies in rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage. The 6-foot-9 freshman has finished in double figures 15 times this season, including a team-best three 20-point outings, averaging 25.5 min of playing time.
Nicholson's six blocks against the Dukes marked the fifth time this season he's finished with at least five in a game. His season block total now stands at 66, good for the fifth-best total in the nation and tops amongst all freshmen. His block shots per game ranks 5th in the nation and is the only freshman in the top 25 (second is ranked 29th Gregory Echenique, Rutgers). While his field goal percentage ranks 9th among the nation and is the only freshman in the top 50.
Coming off the best game of his season with a career high 29 points and career high 12 rebounds also with 6 blocks has made the big man's name become recognized.
Not only that Andrew has just earned his fifth Atlantic 10 athlete of the week and ties the school record set by Alvin Lott in 1983-84.
As quoted in one of the articles in the Toronto Sun "Nicholson said he needs to get stronger. The rest of his game will continue to grow. In another year or so, he could be the best player in the A-10, and he is already on the radar of NBA scouts."
He success will seem to continue for sure for the rest of the season and the following 3 seasons.
