JCLARKE VS VAUGHAN-who's #1 @ HOOPS4HEART - SAT. FEB 5 - PHS

After a very successful HOOPS4HAITI event last year.....we have decided to continue this year calling the event HOOPS4HEART with proceeds donated to Heart and Stroke Foundation (February is Heart and Stroke Month)

The 1 day showcase will be held at Pickering High School on Saturday, February 5th, 2011

Doors will open at 9am

$2 for children 12 and under
$5 for high school students with school I.D.
$7 for all adults

Last year the crowd was fantastic.....we are hoping for the same this year!

Wow for everyone who says denison is nothing without pangos, looks like they proved their worth today. What about the Vaughan/J Clarke game?

Vaughan Vs Jclarke was tied at 43 with about 2 minutes left in the third but it was cancelled due to condensation on the court.

Denison is a pretty good team without Kevin Pangos. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they played with him sitting on the bench in street clothes. They don't look great in warm-up, but, when the ball is tipped they can play with any team in the province with or without Pangos.

Secondly, I'm glad the referees and the coaches made the right decision to call the game. There were way to many players falling unexpectedly during the J Clarke/Vaughn game. At first, it seemed like they were just travelling or tripping, but eventually you could see that something wasn't right out there. It was happening way to often to be a mere coincidence. When Troy dropped in front of the Vaughn bench at the end...one leg slipped out from under him and the other leg buckled. It was a great call and definitely the right decision to call the game and not risk further injury to all the players.

It was a great game nonetheless! J Clarke was leading by 8 and Vaughn came back to tie it 43-43 with a little over 3 minutes left in the third quarter. Hopefully, they will meet once more at OFSAA in London. Season series Vaughn 2 wins, J Clarke 1 Win and a tie.

Pickering High would like to thank all the coaches, players, volunteers, sponsors and spectators who attended on Saturday.

It was a great day of basketball for a great cause!

It truly was unfortunate how the game ended between JClarke and Vaughan, but I do agree the correct decision was made. The risk of injury was too great for these athletes due to the problem with the floor.

I know how disappointed the spectators and players were to have to end what was going to be a classic game between these two teams and I'd like to thank everyone for acting in a mature and responsible manner. We tried everything to resume the game, however it was not meant to be.

We will make some adjustments for next year to assure this does not happen again.

Yeah...heard about the condensation problem as well. Great call by the organizers and coaches to call the game before anyone got seriously hurt!
Sounds like it was a great event nonethess and for a geat cause.
Great job Pickering. Sorry I couldn't be there.
