How is it that MacNab Juniors are listed as a team in the tournament? They are a public high school team and if they are in there had better be an investigation into this or I personally will be making noise!

As the teacher-coach of the team I can assure you that MacNab will not be participating in ANYTHING until we reach and agreement with the ministry!! There is no need to make noise as we are already making it. Thank you for your concern nevertheless. We not only fight for ourselves, but also for the future of our youth! Merry Christmas all.

How come some groups have three teams and some have four teams? Will there be a cross over game?

Thanks Coach Washington-I certainly hope that public school teachers are fighting for the students not just themselves. The student-athletes are the ones in trouble. Its too bad that all high school teachers were not in one board because all the Catholic student-athletes are getting all the looks now and public students are all being left out.Let all students transfer th the Catholic Board now and then perhaps next year the public board will be gone. Anyway Coach are you not the senior coach

Xavier Junior Rimrocker Results Empty Re: Xavier Junior Rimrocker Results

Post by Xavier Rimrocker Wed Dec 19, 2012 11:08 pm

First post is now updated with the full schedule.

Since I will get questions about the unbalanced groups, I will answer the ones I think are most obvious right now.

Why are some groups bigger than others?
Because, due to 13 public schools withdrawing, we were not able to re-fill all the spaces. I didn't want to turn down any teams that committed simply to make sure every group was the same size.

Will the 6 gaps be filled if the public schools come back after Dec 31st?
Unfortunately, no. As most teams need to make their transportation arrangements before Christmas, adding teams would force a complete makeover of the schedule. That's not fair to the teams already in the tournament. However, if any teams drop out we will be happy to consider any available school.

How does the round robin work now?
The two groups at Xavier are the same as usual: Four teams in each group that play each of the other teams in their group. At the other three schools, each team in a group of three will play one cross-over game against a team in the other group of three, along with the two games against their division opponents.

Does that mean those groups have less playoff teams?
No, each group will still send two teams to the playoffs.

Is it fair that the teams in the smaller groups each play a different cross-over opponent?
It's unavoidable but the tie-breakers are set up in such a way that a team that wins less games against their group members but wins an easier cross-over game will not advance ahead of the team/team(s) that beat them. For example: Team A is 2-0 in their group, Team B is 1-1, and Team C is 0-2 but B loses their cross-over and C wins their cross-over. B still finishes ahead of C on the first and second tie-breakers. The cross over only makes a difference if all three teams in a group go 1-1 against each other.

    Is this year's tournament weaker?
I won't lie and pretend that the tournament is as deep as most years. Many Super 16 teams are missing and 26 teams is less than the usual 32. However, there will still be competitive matches in every group and by the time we reach the final 8, we expect as high a calibre of lay as we normally see. Also, there are always some under the radar teams that come out of nowhere to make the playoffs at the Junior Rimrocker and there's no reason to believe that, full field or not, this year would have been any different.

if you have any more questions, please feel free to post them.

Even though there are some teams from the top 16 missing... the finals two teams will be the same......

Even if Eastern Commerce, Oakwood, Vaughan, Pickering, J. C. R., Emery,...etc.... (I apoligize to any other top16 public school team that I missed.).... The top two teams in the GTA should meet in the finals.....

I am the junior boys coach from MacNab. To clarify the issue we were asked to commit financially early in the season to the Rim Rocker in order to guarantee a spot. At that time we were still playing and hopeful that an agreement with the ministry would be reached quickly. We committed financially at that time. This has not been the case and Jason has honored our financial commitment by putting our name in the draw.

We currently are not participating in any extra curricular activities and will not be participating until we are instructed otherwise. If this does not occur by Jan. 10 we will not be participating in this tournament.

We apologize in advance specifically to the teams in our pool and to any teams affected by our spot in the draw.

If you have any further questions please contact me directly at tim.francis@hwdsb.on.ca.

technically public schools can still participate, if a teacher-coach, or a community coach wants to. If they are willing to deal with the backlash and negative commentary that is. As well, they would be considered scabs.

Very hard to do. I don't see these issues being resolved before January 25.
