Unfortunately there are some conflicts that could not be avoided.

One was through a misunderstanding but we had no choice but to move ahead.

The other part is there only so many dates that are available!

The good part is that so many tournaments being offered for Junior aged players this season. Cool

Last year, Huron Heights did a number of one-day tournaments.

Vaughan ran a late season tournament that the playoffs and Mother Nature conspired against. Hopefully it will host again this season and have better luck with these extraneous forces.

The two tournaments offer significantly different formats and coaches will pick the one that best suits their needs. Both will attract good teams.

Please note that the Junior Rimrocker will once again be hosted by St. Francis Xavier, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Edmund Campion, and Mississauga. It will follow the same format as the last two years.

I don't know if HooptownGTA will ever get to this but if you do can you update the Top ten for Junior and Senior teams...I would appreciate knowing what teams are considered the " Cream of the Crop."

There is no "Cream of the Crop" at this point.

Here is a list near the end of last year.

1. Henry Carr A (TDCAA)
2. Pickering (Durham)
3. Mother Teresa (TDCAA)
4. Jean Vanier (TDCAA)
5. Loyola (Peel)
6.Vaughan (York)
7. Carr B (TDCAA)
8. Pope John Paul II (TDCAA)
9. St Augustine (Peel)
10. St. Marcellinus (Peel) /Father Goetz (Peel)

MT defeated Henry Carr in the Irv Salsberg at the end of the season, Pickering was not entered. That has been called an unofficial OFSSAA for Junior Basketball.

Carr beat MT in the TDCAA Playoffs. Pickering beat MT at the SBA tournament. These three were very close. Carr A beat Pickering. Pickering beat Carr A.

The list I posted was not my own. It was from the pre-playoffs.

Brother Andre simply did not compete in the same number of top tournaments with the top teams that Vaughan did. They were an unknown quantity.

I clearly stated that this list was from last year.

Of course Pope and Vaughan will be very strong.

Carr and Richview will also be very strong and as will Sandalwood. MT and Pickering will contend. Vanier should contend depending on their coaching situation.

We need to see which schools have Gr 9's who will have an impact. Also which schools who have transfers who are eligible and who will contribute.

No. There will be some good teams there but a lot of coaches think it's very expensive ofr only two games guaranteed and a round robin schedule that usually favours the top seed. They get the long break in each group while the other two teams have to play their games with only one game rest in between.
10. St. Marcellinus (Peel) /Father Goetz (Peel)
Goetz was the #9 seed in the Peel playoffs and lost in the first round (of 12 teams). Marcellinus made it to the semi-finals but they were well below the calibre of the other three teams (Loyola, Notre Dame Leger) and also behind Augustine.

Peel was the deepest league in Ontario last year but I think only Loyola and Augustine were worthy of top-10 in the GTA last year. OTOH, if there was a top-25, as many 8 or 9 Peel teams might have been on it.

Only from a GTA-centric view of basketball in Ontario. The Rimrocker is still the closest thing to an unofficial Junior OFSAA simply because it brings in more top teams playing more games and it does the best job of including teams from outside the GTA, most significantly Hamilton, Niagara, KW, Eastern Ontario, and London.

I agree with you about Carr and Richview (my sleeper pick to win TDSB this year) but not Sandalwood. Their record last year was greatly exaggerated due to the very weak tier 2 schedule they played. They never played in any significant tier 1 tournaments.

On top of that, their head coach has left for another school.

The Top Ten lists will get updated closer to the start of the season. Once everyone gets back to school, and I speak with the coaches to find out who's left, who's back, who's moving up.... then I'll be able to put out the Super 16 lists.
