Coaching Update 2009-10 Empty Coaching Update 2009-10

As promised, here is an update for this season.

As mentioned in the NAA thread, everything happens for a reason and that program not working out was no exception.
After the program fell through, I received numerous other job offers in the U.S. as a Coach and/or Program Administrator, but after
looking at the mass exodus of players leaving Canada for American Prep schools, I felt that staying here in Canada and continuing to
support Basketball here would be a better option for me and my family.

For the upcoming year I will be working with 2 phenomenal programs, the York University Men's Basketball Program and REDA/Regional Elite Development Academy (formerly known as NEDA).

At York University, I am honored to work with a great staff as an Assistant under Head Coach Bob Bain (CIS Head Coach of 35 yrs) and Coach Tom Oliveri. With numerous talented young players in their 1st-3rd years, the future is very bright at York and I am excited to be a part of the program.

With REDA, Coach Tarry Upshaw has done a phenomenal job of resurrecting this program from the budget fallout with Basketball Canada. Especially with the high number of Elite Canadian players heading down to the U.S., it is more critical than ever that our Elite guys have an option for high level training and exposure here in Canada. With a schedule including some of the Top U.S. Prep School Tournaments, and games vs. OCAA and JUCO teams and dedicated training on a daily basis, REDA is a great Canadian based alternative to American Prep Schools.

Thank you to everyone in the GTA Basketball community for all your support, and look out for more news on the York U. Men's Program and REDA coming soon! Very Happy

Thanks for the Congrats guys, I appreciate it.

Definitely glad I could land on my feet after an up & down journey with NAA that was a fantastic learning experience regardless of the final outcome.

Very excited about both York University and REDA as I am working with great Coaching staffs and phenomenal young men with bright futures in both situations.

The REDA Roster that was listed by Barry Hayes on the Hoopstars Canada website is actually accurate, so here it is: (with some additional info)

    Abednego Lufile (Burlington, ON/Assumption) - 6'5 SF
    Connor Wood (Guelph, ON/Bishop Macdonell) - 6'5 SG/SF
Grant Mullins (Burlington, ON/Notre Dame) - 6'0 PG
    Jahenns Manigat (Ottawa, ON/Immaculata) - 6'2 PG/SG
    Kyle Hankins (Burlington, ON/Assumption) - 6'6 SF
    Lucas Nugteren (Woodstock, ON/Huron Park) - 6'10 C
Matthew Augustine (Toronto, ON/Mother Teresa) - 6'0 PG
    Meshak Lufile (Burlington, ON/Assumption) - 6'7 PF
    Nic Yantzi (Burlington, ON/Central) - 6'11 PF/C
Ryan Augustine (Toronto, ON/Mother Teresa) - 6'2 SG
    Trevor Thompson (Burlington, ON/Nelson) - 6'5 F
    Troy Joseph (Ajax, ON/Pickering) - 6'5 SG/SF

Where this is different from American Prep schools though is that this is a Canadian Program run by Canadian Coaches and affiliated with Basketball Canada (although we will still be playing numerous high profile Prep Tournaments in the U.S.).

As far as York University goes, we will be playing vs. the York Alumni tonight at 8pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre (Main Gym on Campus)...Come by and check out the game if you're in the area! Very Happy

REDA will be playing our 1st game @ Mohawk College at 5pm on October the 7th...

This is a Canadian program, why are they reclassifying players as to their graduating year??

REDA's players are not re-classifying. For 100% accurate Graduating dates you'd need to speak with each individual's Guidance Councellor, but adding an approximate Graduation date is commonplace in helping guys with their recruiting.

Those dates have been removed from this post as it's not a topic worth discussing.

Thanks again for the support and look for more info coming soon...
