The Lady Rimrocker lineup seems to improve every year. This is the deepest senior girls tournament line-up in the GTA so far.

Top seeds are probably Ascension, Bishop Tonnos, d'Youville, and Pope John Paul, with Aqunas and Richview maybe making some noise against the big four.

...Aquinas will surprise people!!!!

Aquinas is at Ascension tomorrow in league play. Could be interesting to see how good they are!

We certainly got them ready for a big game..not sure if they will have enough left in the tank emotionally...

Groups and Schedules are now posted at the top of this thread. Pine Ridge is the final addition to the line-up.

Are spectators allowed to come watch on Wednesday? I would like to go to Carmel to watch afterschool...

its like $2 for students and $5 for adults i think. well......it was like that last year when i went.

Very good draw, with a lot of interesting games in pool play.

There was no charge for spectators at the girls tournament last year but we did charge $2 per spectator at the senior and junior boys tournaments.

This year, there will be a $2 charge per spectator at Xavier after school. All fans are welcome after 2:30 pm. (I will double check the policy at Carmel this year and post it here.) Games during the school day are open only to students at each of the two host schools, along with participants and parents of those involved in the tournament.

Nicely balanced groups, as we have come to expect from the Rimrocker folks. This will be a very exciting tournament with all eight playoff teams potential top 20 teams in the GTA. My picks:

Group A - Have to go with Aquinas in a very close battle with Pine Ridge who will take second. I have no idea if Westside is competitive but there is a post on another site that mentions that they have a couple of solid OBA players in their starting lineup. I'll take them 3rd over an Xavier team that is fantastic defeinsively but has trouble scoring.

Group B - Pope John Paul has done well at this tournament the past few years and I expect them to win their group but with a couple of close games against Campion and Richview. Those two teams will be neck-and-neck for second but I'll show my Peel bias and pick Campion even though Richview has already won a tournament this year. Marcellinus is just happy to be back.

Group C - Ascension walks away with this division. Carmel has looked very solid but St. Francis out of Niagara is a solid program that always does well in AA. However, I'll give the spot to Carmel with the home crowd advantage. Silverthorn is rebuilding after a great season last year.

Group D - d'Youville is the top ranked team in this tournament. Notre Dame has the rep while St. Joes is the dark horse. I'll take a young but athletic Notre Dame team for second. Augustine out of York won the junior league title last year but they will depend on their grade 11 players too much to do any serious damage this year. Next year, on the other hand...

Playoffs:

Consolation - Campion beats Notre Dame who they blew out already last week while Pine Ridge wins a squeaker over Carmel. I'll take Campion in a close battle over Pine Ridge in the consolation final.

Championship - d'Youville beats Pope for the second year in a row in the Rimrocker semis while Ascension will beat Aquinas for the second time in a week. d'Youville wil not start slowly against Ascension in the final like they did at Sheridan and should win by about 10 points. Pope's experience overcomes Aquinas' ability.

There you have it; now feel free to point out all the mistakes I have made as the game results are posted. ;-)

What happened to Bishop Tonnos from Hamilton? Did they drop out?

There was a mix-up that lead to conflicting dates. The fault was mine.

This should be a great tournament, looking forward to it!!!

Please remember that admission to both schools during school hours is limited to participants, staff and students of the two host schools, and parents of players only. Admission after school is open to the general public. The admission charge at Xavier is $2.00.

I heard that the Pine Ridge - Westview game was pretty close until the final five minutes of the game. Apparently they can play with the big girls of Pine Ridge.

Reports so far are that D'Youville and Ascension will be untouchable tomorrow, while Campion-Pope and Pine Ridge-Aquinas will be epic battles. I wish I could have seen more than a couple of games today but I plan to see a few at both school tomorrow.

The playoffs on Friday will make for the best girls basketball in the GTA so far this season.
