What a great draw, between this tournament and the handful at the Jean Vanier tournament... looks to be a great weekend of junior basketball

The Vaughan Family would like to extend their thanks to Henry Carr for hosting another excellent and competitive tournament.
Our games against Brebeuf, Oakwood, St. Mikes and Carr were very competitive and all the teams that played in this tournament were gracious in their wins and/or losses. Our student athletes at Vaughan have much to learn from their wins and losses and we will move forward in developing our players to get better. We would also like to thank the parents and family that came to support the team.

Lincoln Samuels i believe is playing Sr ball, but is still playing Jr for now.He may just stay down, but for sure i thought if Lincoln wasnt playing, Carr would have lost against Vaughan tonight. He is a great package player and a force to be reckoned with.

It was a great exciting game and as usual, Father Henry Carr puts on a great tournament.
But on the other hand, I never witnessed so many FLOPS in one game..LOL it was crazy..

Good luck to all next week in the MT tourny another exciting tournament coming up

Im glad my friend my New Mexico gave out a few cards to people he was interested in.
I have no comments on tournament games since most coaches probably assign different amounts of playing time so that everyone can play.

What do you mean Lincoln Samuels is playing senior, but is still playing Jr for now....? Does Lincoln get any minutes at the senior?

How do the jr players feel when there minutes are taken away by a senior player....?

Is Carr about winning tournaments.....? or about developing players....especially at the junior level.....

When the last time Carr has won with players who have been there for four or five years....? The best teams Carr have had at the senior level have all been TRANSFERS.....

    Prime Time:

What do you mean Lincoln Samuels is playing senior, but is still playing Jr for now....? Does Lincoln get any minutes at the senior?

Answer - He does get substantial amount of minutes at Sr he is a great player indeed... why bring him down back to Jr?

How do the jr players feel when there minutes are taken away by a senior player....?

Answer-I am not sure, but i am sure its not a nice feeling

Is Carr about winning tournaments.....? or about developing players....especially at the junior level.....

Answer - They definitely develop for sure, look at the history of FHC. track record and through the coaches who put in a lot of work also....

When the last time Carr has won with players who have been there for four or five years....? The best teams Carr have had at the senior level have all been TRANSFERS.....

Answers - I am not certain, but yes i am sure they do get transfers like anyone else does, but there must be a reason why people transfer in and out of schools.

Every year its always the same the topic with father henry carr and transfers from all over wich is true and licoln samuels is a great players very skilled and has past his age group's level but it doesn't really matter whether he plays one game senior and is still playing junior at the same time i bet some schools does that with their players on the low but if this happens to carr people make a big deal out of it becuase ther arguebly #1, but I feel sorry for the other transfers who lose thier minutes and game time because of licoln or other palyers in the past who left to go to prep and could have been starters if they attended thier home schools or if they attended other schools in toronto which really needed those players especially the players going to carr livin toronto .You guys have a greater advantage in transfering to any school you want considering the brampton players on your team going to carr did not have no choice because they could not go to thier desired school in peel and feel they had a better chance at carr.As well Im not sure if carr really developes thier palyers because alot of thier palyers have been good or elite palyers and playing on top notch rep teams before attending carr.Like look at otehr teams that I bet had transfers eastern ,oakwood pickering downsview and dy cuase i know some players fake thier adresss to attend dy and those schools don't get targeted. So if you think about carr will always get targeted as thier basketball program gets better and greater because thier there # 1. Schools such as mt and vaughan don't have alot of contrerversy like carr becuase maybe they develope thier players and play according to the ''rules" an they could be number one also. Very Happy

I am not sure what the issue is here. I have brought up a few players to play with the senior team in exhibition games and tournaments. None of them have played any league games. They may be brought up to play senior on a full time basis. When and if that happens, it will be our decision in the best interests of the player and the team.

Transfers are irrelevant because many schools have transfers, but some of you only focuse on FHC. We have gained as many transfers as we have lost to prep schools.

The constant negativity about FHC and Coach Melnik says more about you than it does about us.

And for the record, there are some gr 10s playing senior at other schools that are not getting one minute of playing time in blow outs. Why dont you focus on them?

There is no doubt in my mind that our players develop. Whether they arrived in grade nine or later, they have developed. Our kids have moved on to prep schools, junior colleges, colleges, and universities. They have done well for themselves, and the majority loved their time at FHC.

Some of you have been very critical of me. I don't coach this game to please you. I coach it because I love it, and I don't desire your praise. What I desire, is that you critique every program and coach the same way.

    Warmest regards,

    Coach Melnik

I don't think people are mad at schools for getting transfers. I think it is the process at which they get them (RECRUITING) and how easy some students become eligible at certain schools

Vaughan plays by the rules with transfers? I've heard other wise. Most of their players don't live in the schools areas.

Sometimes students show up at schools to play basketball and the basketball program knows nothing about it. No?

Let's not kid our selves, recruiting or not, the top programs year in and year out have kids from all over the place. You got kids from peel going to Carr and Eastern. Anyone good in York region goes to Vaughan. Everyone knows that. BUT I don't see anything wrong with that. If a school runs a good ball program then why not have kids go there?

I mean if my home school doesn't have a basketball program and I played on the ontario u15 team, why would I want to go to my home school?

I see it like a music or art school. Kids should be able to choose were to go for athletics. BUT our canadian school school system is not set up like that.

One thing for sure though, it takes way more work to develop a decent program from scratch then to show up to the gym with 20 basketball players in there and you have to decide which 12 to take. I mean Vaughan runs a good program to begin with, but, how hard is it to coach Andrew Wiggins. I saw the Humber classic and he was like never subbed off. All you got to do is play the kid and you win.

honesly lifes not fair i agree its not fair that all these brampton kids go to carr and play on there team even though there are good basketball players who have to go to carr as there home school and dont even make the team. but i also agree if ur home school doesnt have a good basketball program then u wouldnt want to go there. on the terms of Coach Melnek i think he is a great coach who does coach hes kids well but i find certain things kind of intresting like how 4 people from henry carr were in the ontario all star game for the cathlic school team .out of all the teams in the tcdsb that the best players from certain schools werent as good as one of those 4 players ???

Although it is not fair and life isn't fair. It is still a rule, so either the rule should be actually enforced or dropped. Because what starts to occur instead is some schools have recruiting going on, where as others don't. For example one school from a certain region will have all good players, where as all the good players from the next region will be spread out instead of making a power house school. It really lowers the quality of basketball we see.
