J Clarke are starting to look like they did last season and on a side note that 47 point peformance by jamal reynods against holy trinty is very impressive

EDITED: The real competitive matchup between the true 2 top teams of the tourney was JC Richardson vs Holy Trinity, which is why I call it the "real final" so to speak. A more relevant 3rd place game would have seen maybe the winner of say GL Roberts v Dunbarton play the winner of say Pine Ridge v Ross.

All in all not one of the better tournaments this year to be honest and the officiating was for the most part pretty horrible in all the games I saw.

I don't quite understand your point. Its unfortunate that Holy Trinity lost one of their best players in the J Clarke game due to injury. Injuries are part of the game and happen all the time. You're right Holy Trinity was not at full strength against Pine Ridge. It was also unfortunate that Paul Bray, their 3 point sharp shooter got ejected out of the game. It was really petty and uncalled for. The officiating has nothing to do with the tournament. Referees call the game the way they see it. Tournament organizers can't control the referees or the quality of the officiating.

Secondly, the David Preston Memorial tournament is an annual event that honours the memory of David Preston. He is a former Pine Ridge player who unfortunately died in a car accident on the eve of the 2003 basketball season. It was never meant to be a top flight/A list event! Over the years some of the top GTA teams have attended the tourney because they think it is something worthwhile to support...Pickering, Eastern Commerce, Vaughn and J Clarke have all supported it and won it over the years. This year was rough because we had some teams drop out at the last minute and unfortunately could not replace them...therefore you're forced to split your team. I understand what you're saying to a certain degree...it did not go as well as planned, but, the quality of officiating and the misfortunes of the Holy Trinity team have nothing to do with the tournament organizers.

Rerun: there is no grand point or any disrespect to the intent of the tournament or the memory of the student intended nor did I mean to question the overall intention in regards to attracting A list teams, so I'm going to edit that.

I am also not defending Holy Trinity or the conduct of their players one little bit. Nor am I singing any misfortunes on their part, they beat 2 teams and gave JC a decent game which is more than anyone else in the tourny save JC themselves can say. So I guess there is somewhat of an implied point there..

All the rest I've edited out because it's probably better discussed in person and certainly not on an internet board. I'll try and remember some suggestions of what I think could have been done by the organizers for next time. Officiating I agree is hard to control but find that it seems to get worse and worse the further one goes outside Toronto and Peel.
