Post by BJH Tue Jan 27, 2009 4:05 pm

I've posted rankings for four different Canadian classes on the HoopStars Canada website. Each article is viewable to the public.

    http://www.hoopstarscanada.com/index.pl

Below is the 2009 Rankings by Position article:

It is time to take a look inside the Class of 2009 from coast-to-coast. After arduous analysis, the best Canadian prospects were first classified into a specific position and then placed in order next to their peers. While some players have the option of returning for another year of high school eligibility (or prep) eligibility within the acceptable time frame, each is currently planning to graduate and attend a post-secondary institution next fall.

Commitments, both signed and verbal, have been designated in BOLD next to the prospect’s name.

HoopStars Canada Rankings - Class of 2009 to 2012 Empty Class of 2010 Article

When looking at underclassmen, the rankings get more complicated to complete and subsequently to understand. Considering a prospect’s untapped potential, expected growth spurts, level of training, and post-secondary value are some major factors. It is not necessarily in order of who are the best players today, but who should be the best prospects by graduation. For example, post players usually take the most time to develop, so that has to be factored into the formula. There is a window of time for each prospect to tap into their potential and their ranking will obviously begin to rise as they approach it or fall the closer they are in failing to reach it. Naturally, the further they are from graduation, the more time they have to prove their potential and rise/fall in the rankings.

(C = Centre, PF = Power Forward, SF = Small Forward, PG = Point Guard, SG = Shooting Guard, CG = Combo Guard)

While it is not set in stone that each of these prospects will graduate in this designated year, due to the high percentage of southern Ontario prospects using their optional fifth year of high school eligibility as they prepare for the next level, prospective fifth-year southern Ontario grads were chosen. Some have already designated themselves as potential grads in the given year below, while some have not. Since the NCAA has tightened their rulebook on the eligibility of prospects in Quebec, two years of CEGEP for each was placed as the default road to their graduation.

Great lists. Looks like someone has done their homework. Thank GOD for all of the prep schools. The talent out of the GTA and Canada in general is indeed increasing. The only problem is that the prep schools are like vultures. They will take all the talent out of Canada as they can. Instead of developing our kids here at home, and working together to develop coaching talent, kids are leaving in bigger numbers then ever.

I don't really blame the kids for going south, I would just rather see them develop and thrive at home.

i was about to say... pretty obvious that the trend for most of the better talents in canada is to leave canada and develop their talents abroad... . should be really emabressin for basketball canada, at it should let them know wat our players think of our nation's basketball, as they're all leaving to play everywhere but canada

Richard Peters is way overrated. Unless the ranking is based on height and not game time. I an see someone seeing his potential but based on right now Anthony Bennett is the top 2011.

I love how some posters simply know better than the person who does this for a living. They are so certain of this that they don't even back up their opinion with some concrete reasons.

    Peel Fan,

I agree with you, but BJH should provide back up of his opinion with some concrete reasons. I just want to know what made him choose these talented young youth and how they play? I just feel that you have to provide those things, instead of just throwing on the site and saying "that's the way it is".
