    Silverthorn Collegiate? Empty Silverthorn Collegiate?

    Post by Chongo1993 Mon Mar 30, 2009 2:46 pm

My family will be moving to Etobicoke due to my Dad's job being relocated from Sault Ste. Marie (the house is right near Burnhamthorpe and the golf course). The closest high school to the house that we are buying is Silverthorn. I did play Junior Basketball ball this past season (co-captain) on a team that won NOSSA "AA" and our record was 41-5. The only Toronto area team that we played was St. Micheals and it was a fifteen point loss.

I have played OBA ball since grade 5 and last year my team was ranked 32nd in the midget division.

Will Silverthorn be the best school for both academics (important to the parents) and ball (me). I do have an 82% average in French Immersion academics (although I do want to get out of it). I do not want to ride the TTC all over hell's half acre to get to another school, so maybe Islington would be the outside limit for travel.

Any tips would be appreciated. Very Happy

2 buses that would take 30-40 minutes would get you
to Martingrove High School. They won the city AAA championships the
last 2 years in a row. great school for basketball!

the school is at the corner of martingrove and eglington which
would be north east of you.

Stick with Silverthorn. It has a good reputation in both academics and athletics and it is close to home, something you mentioned as being important.

What is the academic status of Martingrove Collegiate?

My Mom went to Runnymede Collegiate back in the seventies!

She said then that the school was a pretty god basketball school?

    Is it still?

Is there a F. I. school close to Silverthorn.

Is there an OBA club based somewhere close to Silverthorn?

Again thanks for the help guys.

Richview Collegiate is the closest school with a French Immersion program. It's at Islington and Eglinton. Very solid academically and it has a strong basketball program, too. I know the coach and he is very good.

The junior team was one of the top-15 teams in the entire GTA this year so the senior team will be strong over the next couple of years.

Martingrove CI has a very good academic school due to the Gifted program. The only problem is that Martingrove has a well rounded team already.

I don't like silverthorn as a school.. that's why I'm going to Michael Power, it may not be one of the best schools in ball but they have great academics and not a terrible basketball program.

Chongo if you say you were co-captain of a pretty solid squad, im telling you Silverthorn is not the place for you, I'd suggest Martingrove, for both Academics/Athletics, but you will have to put in work to see floor time.

It's the quality of the team as there 9-1 jr. team moves up to senior that has 6-7 players coming back that won 3A Toronto City Championships.

Michael Power/St.Joseph is a Catholic High School for students living in western Etobicoke. I beleive you would be living inside fo their boundaries. It is a very large school (around 2000 students) with the IB program, as well as gifted and enriched classes. It does well in a variety of sports.

Agreed with baller101, they have about 5-6 junoirs comming up, and almost 6-7 players comming back for another year on the Senoir team. I have also been informed of a transfer that has already switched to martingrove which now makes the team to about 13-15 players. This is not accounting many other transfers comming in next year from other schools.

If you do not go to SCI (your home high school) you will not pass transfer. Michael Power is your only other option if you wish to play next year. If you want to play at MCI or RCI make sure your partents move into those school boundries
