BASKETBALL ONTARIO ANNOUNCES RESTRUCTURE FOR CP MEN
The Menʼs Centre for/de Performance program will move to three centralized regions in 2008-09.
The regions will be Central West (Windsor to Guelph, Hamilton, Burlington and Niagara Falls), Central East (GTA and northern areas) and East (Belleville to Ottawa).
This change has been introduced to give more athletes an opportunity to become involved in the CP curriculum. Ontario is the largest province with the highest population; this change will help centralize athletes and minimize travel costs. It will also allow regions to schedule their training dates to fit regional needs. The number of athletes in the program will increase from 30 to more than 50. With a successful restructure, Basketball Ontario and Canada Basketball will look to add a fourth region in 2009-10.
The head coach of the Central East region will be Roy Rana, while Kurt Vosper will be the head coach of the Central West region. The head coach position for the East region is still to be filled.
MEN'S NIKE CP - ONTARIO PROGRAM FRAMEWORK
Canada Basketball's Nike Centres for Performance program will include activities such as:

* Elite athlete identification and selection
* Elite athlete training , monitoring and evaluation
* Coaching development and mentoring
* Introduction to key age-appropriate sport science components (strength training, conditioning, nutrition, sport psychology, etc.
* Competition component *New for 2008-09

In addition, in between the centralized training sessions when athletes return to their homes, they will be required as a minimum to complete:

* 180 hours of basketball development homework (three 1-hour sessions per week)
* 180 hours of strength and conditioning homework (three 1-hour sessions per week)
* Weekly Pod training in region

Targeted Group of Male Athletes
A total of 50-55 top elite male athletes in Ontario (between grades 7 to 11* during the year of the program) who have the skill, athleticism, potential and attitude to be outstanding basketball players will be eligible for selection to the men's CP-Ontario program.
The exact number of athletes per age group will be determined based on national team potential and identified needs (short and long-term) of the Canadian Men's National Team program.
*Note: Could include an athlete over 18 or under 13, but will be evaluated on an individual case basis during the selection process and will be based on recommendation from the network of coaches in the Men's National Team coaching pool and National Team head coach.
Athletes in grades 7 to 11 have been targeted for this year.

Athlete Identification
Talent identification sessions for the CP-Ontario program will be conducted in early fall.
Future athlete identification will continue to occur throughout the year at Canada Basketball events (e.g. National Championships, open talent identification sessions, etc.) and/or in existing systems in provincial activities (Basketball Ontario programs, club and/or school programs, etc.)
Identification will be conducted by a network of coaches throughout the province.

No grade 12s? It doesn't make sense..it says it could include 18 year olds but at the same time it's grade 7-11?
