Send BC's best to any of the top Ontario tournaments and see what happens. To refresh your memory, last year one of the top BC teams (St. George) came to play in the Silver Fox and got demolished by several Ontario teams. Thanks for posting the link though, I'll definately check out some of the action.

A few highlights proves nothing one way or the other. One could easily do the same with OFSAA video and send it to BC. That wouldn't automatically prove that Ontario was the best either.

WH makes a good point. St. George's were BC AAA champions last year (AAA is the largest classification in BC) but, facing a weaker Silver Fox field then previous years, they were less than impressive. They lost by 14 to Parkside in the first round, blew out a very week Saltfleet squad, beat Bishop Tonnes by 7, lost to Windsor Herman by 1, and then beat an Ursuline squad that doubled out at AAAA OFSAA (after getting in via the back door game due to the extra berth for SWOSSAA as hosts) by 17. I think that placed them 9th.

Bear in mind that the only provincial top-10 team in that tournament was AAA St. Matt's from Ottawa.

While one tournament doesn't prove anything, it does make any claim that BC has the best teams in the country a questionable one, even with Ontario weakened by prep school losses over the past couple of years.

The BC high school championships are impressive! The basketball culture is different out west.....there is a lot more media coverage and fan support for local high school sports...basketball in particular. Their high school championship tournament is televised so the whole event looks more impressive than our OFSAA tournament.

However, even though their high school championship event is much more celebrated and presented better than our OFSAA championship...(No knock to OFSAA basketball at all..just stating a truth) they do not have better basketball teams. A ST. George team featuring Bol Kong came down here much celebrated and hyped and struggled. They did not play Pickering, Eastern, Henry Carr or any of the top teams but still got beat by lesser teams. British Columbia has excellent basketball and excellent coaching. Obviously they are producing great players...Bol Kong, Rob Sacre and others...of course Steve Nash. When you are comparing high school teams in British Columbia to high school teams in Ontario then Ontario comes out on top. We have a larger population..more athletes...and over the years the few times when Top teams from each province have met up....Ontario has prevailed!

When my high school team when out to BC to play in the Pitt Meadows Marauders Tournament we crushed the competition. This was in the early 1990's, however, we played 3 top teams in BC...Centennial Centaurs #2, Pitt Meadows Marauders #6, Maple Ridge #9 and we beat them by 27, 38 and 40. We played FIBA rules and 40 minute games. The local media was shocked that an Ontario team could do that. Mind you we were a year older than them because our team mainly consisted of grade 13 players, however, we were just to quick, fast and athletic. The BC Teams were good!!! They were excellent fundamental basketball players....they excuted well.....I overplayed guys defensively and got backdoored more times in that tournament than my whole high school career in Ontario, but, they got overwhelmed by our overall speed, quickness and athleticism. Those BC high school teams don't see teams like Ontario unless they go into down into Seattle, Washington on a regular basis. Most of them don't because the games would not be competitive.

would be interested to see some of those great Toronto teams come out and play the best we have out here, especially now that both provinces have teams of the same age group.
