J Clarke is going to lose by alot.

Coach melnik, do you always start your top 5 kids even though you know you will win by like 50? just wondering if you ever say, well j clarke stinks so i am going to start my 13th, 14th, and 15th guy, my water boy and my 50 year old assistant coach.

How could you put Vaughan, DY, West Hill and Dunbarton in one group? Downsview is for sure one level up against Crothers, MT and MArtingrove, but overall the Thursday group is not balanced at all.

I have no info on the out of town teams in the Friday group but I know for sure J Clarke and Pine Ridge would not make that far in this tourney, that's for sure.

This draw in my opinion is a total disappointment based on what I see in here.

Please tell me that you were looking at 1999 rosters when you put this draw together.

The top three teams are all in Thursday's pool. To your credit however, I'm glad to see that MT joins the list of good talent on Thursday.

Your semi-final match-ups are going to be blow outs. That is very unfortunate.

Guess what the teams request their playdates based on their league schedule etc. I set up draw based on those requests. They also sometimes request a start time based on their specific situations i.e. coverage at school,etc. Hence the moving G11 to 4:00 p.m due to a request by one of the teams. Do you suppose a convenor does these things on a whim or something?

Do you expect me to put the top teams in the draw based on their records against one another in the first round?

We have a number of strong teams playing on Thursday and a number of others on Friday that satisfies the definition of balanced in my definition. There is arguably a very strong team in each part of the draw on Thursday and also on Friday.

I believe Windsor Forster is very strong by the way. All our teams are good in their own leagues or area of the Province and have opted to come into the field and compete with some of the very best in the Province.

FYI, Coach Melnik will not be at our tournament and is not the coach of Fr. Henry Carr Juniors. He will be with his Seniors at a Senior tournament.

So it will not be his decision as to who starts.

Here is basketball IQ's top 16 on another thread. I believe he is pretty astute so let us suppose it is reasonably accurate.

If this is accurate - which it well may be - we have Henry Carr (1) Oakwood (6) and Pickering (7) on Friday and Vaughan (2) Downsview (3) and Dunbarton (9) on Thursday. That is based on their teams requests as to play date and then trying to balance the teams on each day.

To me, it appears to be fairly balanced. We also have some perennial contenders from around the province scattered throughout the field.

The top teams (according to basketball IQ) Carr, Vaughan, Downsview and Oakwood are each in a different quarter of the draw.

Again using basketball IQ's rankings we have a very strong field with the 2, 3, 9, 10 and 11 ranked teams on Thursday and 1,6, 7 and 12 along with some out-of-town teams on Friday.

That's 9 of the top 12 teams and some traditionally strong out-of-town teams. That is very strong imho.

Absolutely, there are so many different factors that have to be taken in consideration that many individuals may not know when putting on a event.

As for the rankings i did have a opinion from what i have seen this year, and i may be way off base or almost correct. but it seems that the way it is looking it may appear that top teams are playing Thursday, but reality is, there are other programs this year who have vastly improved their rosters and are being competitive. For example, Dunbarton, (no disrespect) has a stronger program this year than last year, and they are doing well along with D'ville.So lets remember the work other programs are doing.

Does the draw look suspect, NO! I think Coach Bob did what he had to do, with the information that he has and with the requests from other schools as well

There were many exciting and competitive games today. Those who were critical of draw appear to have been wrong in their assessment.
