    Lossa Controversy Empty Lossa Controversy

    Lossa Contorversy
by aces99 Today at 7:30 pm

Well we have a major problem in the LOSSA senior girls basketball playoffs. My daughter plays for the GL Roberts lakers team who went undefeated this season but were disqualified from the playoffs due to a forfeit when the game they were hosting had its time changed at 12:35 pm last Thursady from 3:45 pm by email instead of a phone call. The coach from Pereyma Patriots contacted the convenor from Lossa after the schedule had been released and confirmed by all teams the day before. The Lossa rules state that any time change has to be agreed upn by both teams and the league assignor. However the GL Roberts coach was not even contacted as to the time change. The girls then forfeited the game because they were not ready to play as most of the girls had classes they couldn't miss hence the 3:45 start time. When the game was forfeited the coach immediately protested. The protest meeting was then held Tuesday Nov.15 but was denied. Then after a bunch of emails went to Lossa and Ofsaa and the media another meeting was held this morning but again they were denied. The convenor even told Lossa that he made a bad ruling and that by rights the game should be played but Lossa would not play it. Then this afternoon the Girls From GL Roberts themselves went to Father Leo Austin in Whitby to talk to the Lossa president about the situation and he would not even talk to the team as he said it was over with and it was final. Well since the CHEX TV in Oshawa wants to interview the team as well does Oshawa This Week. Then a phone call came to my wife who has been spearheading this fight was called by the Fan 590 to be on thier Sunday morning show to talk about this mess. They also want to talk to the GL Roberts coach. CityTv is also possibly going to do a story about this as well. When our girls Played Pereyma in regular season play we beat them 36-12 my daughter the shooting guard scored 24 our points. They then went on to beat Denis O'connor from Ajax 47-22 in the final regular season game. They were so dominate in the second half that they outscored Dennis O'conor 31-3 in the second half. Now is it fair that the best team in AA Lossa basketball should not be able to represent Lossa at Ofsaa? Because of the screw up by the convenore the girls are being penalized. Should we stand for this? if not Everyone Contact the Lossa and Ofsaa representatives.

    Thanks

Have you considered legal action against LOSSA?

It seems to me that there has to be more to this story than you are giving. It would be great to hear the other side of the story. Usually, when a decision is made, people know the rules and the facts and make a decision. When that decision is appealed, a hearing takes place and the appeal is denied, we can assume that the original decision is correct. The fact that two appeals were held and that the decision was confirmed both times, leads me to believe that there is a lot more to this story than what has been shared.

In terms of getting legal advice, it is an option but one that I believe should have no place in high school sports. There is a process to ensure justice. That process appears to have been followed. Just because you might not agree with the final decision does not mean that you were wronged in any way. Perhaps the better team is not representing Lossa at ofsaa, but the team that is did nothing wrong here and played by the rules and schedule that they were asked to play by. Why should they be punished in order to accomodate a team that did not play by the rules and schedule? I am sure that the Lossa exec would rather have the team that played by the rules represent their association at ofsaa rather than the team that did not.

hmm just out of curiousity coach C d u have an interest in thsi as in maybe one of the lossa board members?well the media has been contacted and CHEX tv is interviewing the girls today and one of the parents will be on the fan590 this weekend discussing the situation.u want to teach kids about fair play but then turn around and take away an opportunity they have worked their butts off for.well thats an injustice and in no way represents the values you purport to teach now does it.

Apparently after talking to the coach of GL a request was made to play the order of junior/senior 1 week prior to the playoff schedule being sent out. It was OK'd by league convener. The day of the game the convener changes it to Sr/Jr 2 hours prior. The seniors were in class, and some on spare ...they only have 6 or 7 players on the team! Arrangement were not made in time. The juniors could have started the game, but would have finished with less than 5 players as they all thought they would be gone home by 4-hence the 2:45 start time. (COMMITMENTS)
It seems to be another set up by lossa, similar to Pickering last year. 2 programs that put in alot of time and win alot of league championships are attacked year in and year out. Ironically the GL coaches were banned for life from volunteering as convener last year. This mess was played out in emails, meetings and the board office.
After speaking with the coaches about being denied the first time, they appealed again, but were anticipating the ruling to be the same. They couldnt imagine lossa reps overturning other lossa reps.

If this is any indication to what happened last year, on GL ROBERTS being singled out, this is going to get messy and can only imagine what else comes out of this.

Both their teams finished undefeated. I looked on the website and the juniors demolished every team, even beating Peryma 92-10 (not sure about the sportsmanship), apparently a point was being made from last year, as Pereyma's VP and LOSSA EXECUTIVE member began the campaign of the coaches ban.

Coachc is a boys coach from Ottawa and would obviously have no direct interest in this.
