The Eastern Commerce Saints senior basketball team travelled to Detroit, Michigan to compete in the prestigious Motor City Roundball Classic at Detroit Country Day High School in Beverly Hills, Michigan. Stars such as Chris Webber and Shane Battier played at Country Day. Eastern will be playing 3 games on December 26-28.
Eastern played it's first game on December 26 vs Detroit Cass Technical High School. Eastern got off to a very quick start going up 13-0 to start the game and finished with a convincing 76-55 victory. Top scorers foe Eastern were Ammanuel Diressa with 21 points, game MVP Jamal Thomas with 19 points and James Sylvester with 17 points.
Eastern's second game was against Detroit Northwestern. Once again Eastern got off to a great start leading 30-8 at halftime. The final score was 56-26. Top scorers were Jamal Thomas with 17 and James Sylvester with 16.
Eastern's won it's third and final game against East Grand Rapids on Wednesday by a final score of 72-36. Tops scorers in the game were Ammanuel Diressa with 24 points and Jamal Thomas with 14 points.
Congratulations go out to all the players and coaches as Eastern won all three of their games by a wide margin. Positive comments came from coaches, fans and referees on Eastern's style of play using 5 guards and an incredibly stifling defense.
