This tournament features several of Hamilton-Wentworth’s best teams pitted against Ontario’s best. Cathedral is proud to play host to Ontario’s #1 ranked team, Father Henry Carr, of Etobicoke. This team, coached by Paul Melnik, features a 7’3” center named Tanveer Bhullar. Tanveer was named MVP of the Henry Carr Early Bird Classic and 1st team All-Star at the Humber Classic – two tournaments won by FHC. Father Henry Carr remains undefeated on the year. Tanveer Bhullar is the younger brother of Sim Bhullar, a 7’5” Center at New Mexico State University. The Bhullar brothers are hoping to become the first players of Indian decent to play in the NBA.

Eastern Commerce (Toronto) will be seeking to defend their 2011 tournament title at the Mark Walton Invitational. Eastern Commerce is widely considered the #2 team in Ontario, and will be trying to avenge their 57 – 53 defeat to Father Henry Carr in the Humber Classic. Before they get there, they will have to defeat several other top teams, in a very balanced field.
Windsor Catholic Central will try to establish their program as a legitimate provincial power. This team features several high-flying dunkers, including Shavon Gayle. North Pole Hoops, a website dedicated to Canadian Basketball, has WCC ranked #5 in Ontario.
Holy Trinity of Oakville will again try to make a run at the Mark Walton Championship. They were defeated by Eastern Commerce in last year’s Championship, but return many of the players from that squad, including 2011 tournament MVP Trevon McNeill. Holy Trinity entered 2012 AAAA OFSAA ranked #3 and returns most of the top players from that team.
London Beal won the bronze medal at AAAA OFSAA last year and returns many of the players from that team. They have been off the radar so far this year, but loom as a legitimate threat to win the tournament in their first appearance in the Mark Walton Invitational.
Local fans will rest their hopes with Cathedral, St. Thomas More, and Westmount. Cathedral is led by 5’11” super scorer Jaelin Bailey, who is averaging 23 points per game so far this year. Westmount is led by 6’8” James Miles, and returns several other key players that had them ranked #9 entering AAAA OFSAA last year. St. Thomas More is led by Ryan Doornick, who was named to the 1st team All-Star team at the Court Heinbuch tournament in Waterloo.
All games are played at Cathedral High School. It is an OFSAA certified event and has been a strong predictor of AAAA OFSAA success over its first three years. The tournament is named after Cathedral coaching legend Mark Walton, who consistently challenged Ontario’s top teams during his long coaching tenure.
