Some OFSAA history Empty Some OFSAA history

Post by Xavier Rimrocker Thu Dec 11, 2014 11:07 pm

I was looking at my lists of previous OFSAA boys champions and decided to make a list of the largest classification winners each year. In other words, once OFSAA started adding multiple levels, which ever level consisted of the largest schools and thus tended to attract the top teams most years. (Please let's not sidetrack into debate; while there are many good schools in each of the classifications, teams in smaller classifications who would otherwise dominate have historically played up in the largest classification at some point.)

For the record, the largest classification was 1A from 1949-1967; 2A from 1968-1970; 3A from 1971-2001; and 4A from 2002-2014.

The numbers listed below include some 0.5 scores because OFSAA actually split the province in half from 1964-1966 and ran dual provincial championships. However, I have not included 0.5 when tallying host cities.

Below are some totals. Are ties are broken by most recent:

Great list! So teams like Anderson and Mother Teresa with multiple OFSAA Titles would not count because their OFSAA Championships were won at levels lower than AAAA?

That is correct for the purposes of this list. Bear in mind I'm not making subjective commentary; just having a look at the biggest classification each year.

In some provinces/states schools have no freedom to move up levels but Ontario has a somewhat rarer opportunity to actually see many of the top teams face each other in a championship due to schools like Carr, MacNab, Oakwood, Vaughan, Eastern etc. moving up classifications.

Technically, the TDIAA, NY-TD and Tri-City are the same just as the TSSAA and TDSSAA are the same.

That's why they're all listed as TDSSAA in the 2nd column of regional affiliations.
