This is my personal opinion but until someone defeats Carr A they are the indisputable #1 in the GTA.

MT beat them last year at the ACC in the final but did that make them number 1? Not even in my opinion could you justify that. Carr A was the best team throughout the season so they were number 1.

This year is similar. Vaughan would have to beat them very convincingly in the Salsberg (Metro) to make a claim on the #1. I do not even know if they are in as of yet.

The thing is I feel is that Cy makes a huge difference on Vaughan and he is just now getting up to speed.

Carr A has performed the best from October to March so how can anyone make a claim based on the results of one tournament?

One thing to remember is that Junior teams gear up for their league championships.

The Salsberg is a great concept and I love the tournament but it does not have the same stature as say OFSSAA in Senior.

Sometimes teams choose to end with their league championship and not attend.

but vaughan couldn't enter because accoring to rules only gta teams are allowed in that tournament and since they're in york region they couldn't compete but ever since rimrocker henry carr has'nt even been in any tournament neither notre dame or teh sba shoot out so you can't really say from october to march because they havn't shown themselfs since their problem at the rimrocker game

yeah they are but there could be many arguements to oppose that statement , my main point is don't say october to march because they havn't done that more like october to january. but stats show they are ranked number 1 so i won't complain i just wondder why vaughan and pickering can't enter metro when they are both ranked top 3 and have really defined themselfs as top competitors anyone under three they have beat by pretty huge margins the only team that has shown they can compete "sometimes" is pope but other than that they truly do have a higher skill level and talent base than other schools even in the gta , and we ranked them top 3 all throughout the season so why can't they be in this tournament

Who can organize a GTA junior Championship Tourney?

All the junior league champions and finalists from GTA and surrounding regions, sixteen teams @ Hoopdome, single elimination (March Madness style) would make it even more hype and cheaper to enter and to run. Our own mini junior GTA ofsaa style tourney, similar to Metros but bigger and with only champs or finalists.

Coach with your connections I think you can pull it off, if not now pls consider it for next season.

    Disagree with the concept.

For example, that would preclude Notre Dame (Ajax), Mother Teresa, Henry Carr B and many more who are consensus top ten teams.

They could destroy many teams that are Champions and finalists in other regions.

    ok thats true.

How about ranking a final Top 16 at the end of the season, and organizing a tournament out of them?

    Better!

Another possibility might be having wild card or at-large bids. The NCAA has the best teams with a few league champions as automatics.

If the ACC has six top teams than six are selected that is a better concept.

TDCAA and Peel have a lot of top teams. Durham and York getting there.

I believe they want teams from Toronto proper but why do criterea keep changing?

Other years have included a broader field. I'm pretty sure there was a team from Hamilton or Welland last year.

    I will check.

Both Carr A and Carr B have been in more invitational tournaments than most teams. They have both played close to 40 games. I think that is enough games/tournaments.

In order to run a proper GTA championship tournament you would need the following:

    -specific qualification requirements.
-A convenor with gym availability and who other coaches will respect and listen to.
-Need to get all associations to agree to participate. For instance, Peel is starting play-offs on Tuesday and the final is not scheduled until March 12. They would need to have a champion earlier then that.

    Qualification could look like this:
    Peel: 2 teams
York: 2 teams (Vaughan and Newmarket)
Toronto Public: 2 teams (Eastern and West Hill)
Toronto Catholic: 2 teams (Carr A and Pope)
Durham: 2 teams (Pickering and Dunbarton)
    Halton: 2 teams
4 wild cards: If it was this year it MT, and Notre Dame(Ajax) would have a wildcard.

Who would decide on the wildcards though?

You can't just pick the top 16 teams because you run into problems. Who will make those decisions? If coaches start feeling like the process is not fair then they won't want to participate in it in the future and the concept will never work.

Great idea, but you need a VOLUNTEER to start the complicated process of organization.

What about a coaches poll to determine the top 16 and honourable mentions? I am a moderator on this board and I would be willing to organize it.

The Coaches Poll could be published every two weeks.

Coaches could e-mail me their selections and I would be willing to compile the results. Perhaps there is a window in early February (before playoffs) in which the tournament could be held.

    Am I being too ambitious?

Ok it looks like this tournament idea might have some support.

But wouldn't it make most sense to hold the tournament in March, after everyones finished their leagues and playoffs?
Like around the same time as Senior boys Ofsaa?

I would be willing to help and help with the organizing of this tournament as well. I would even offer up my school and host it, if people decide they actually want to participate. If Coach Clement can get people on board I'm pretty sure I can find the gym space and offer to host it with my team helping out. Sounds like a great idea-I have been wanting to do this for years!

Maybe but Peel goes so late.

After March 12 would be too late!!! Non-Peel teams would not continue to practice.

    I was responding to this:

If the intention is a tournament of champions then it wouldn't it make sense to wait until the start of March (assuming Peel finished their playofs earlier)?

However, if the intention is simply to showcase the top teams in one tournament then isn't that role already well served by the Rimrocker?

i think what carr did was unfair to other teams not giving them any chances after the rimrocker 2 play nd get the number 1 spot, after the incident they didnt enter in any other tournaments
