    Great job!

If you haven't visited the main website you should. A nice breakdown on the top teams - gives a great idea of why they are picked where they are.

One player I was wondering about is Isaiah Swaby an extremely athletic player who would be Gr. 12 this year at Pine Ridge. Where is he now?

That is true! Isiah Swaby is missing from the Pine Ridge Roster and so is their PG Point Guard. I guess there was some mistake with the information because Isiah and Janoi are still at Pine Ridge and on the basketball team. However, there are two players mentioned on the roster that are definitely not on the team.

Definitely well put together list Rick/Hooptown GTA...
We all appreciate the work that you do and everything you are doing for Toronto Basketball.

Based on our game last night, Vaughan is a solid team for sure and they will be a team to watch out for.

Mother Theresa and Eastern Commerce return some very talented players and are well Coached, the #1 and #2 spots are deserved as well.

I Coach a couple of the Pickering guys with Grassroots, and they have a very talented team also.

We at West Hill will have our work cut out for us for sure in a super competitive Toronto Basketball landscape.

Should be a very exciting season with some very tough and competitive teams!! Smile

I just checked the original email from Pine Ridge, and I did miss their two returning starters from last season's team. I will make the correction later on.

    Returning Starters:
Janoi Wright, Grade 12, 5ft-9 point guard
Isiah Swaby, Gr. 12, 6ft-3 SF

Rick, are Halton teams eligible for the ranking?

If the answer is yes, did anyone you talk to mention Holy Trinity or Assumption?

If the answe is no, why would the region not be included as Halton is officially part of the GTA?

    Peel Fan,

A few coaches did include Assumption in the Pre-Season Super 16. However, I find it very difficult to rank the Halton team on a weekly basis, due to the fact that the Halton teams hardly play other teams in the GTA.

The weekly Super 16 rankings are based only on GTA games, so I don't take into account if a GTA team defeats or loses to a team from outside the GTA (let's say a team from Windsor for example). From past history, the Halton teams have hardly played other teams in the GTA, and I find that they tend to head west and not east.

I will keep my eye on Assumption and Holy Trinity and if they play some games vs. other GTA teams, then I will start to include them in the weekly Super 16 rankings.

Thanks, Rick. I never realized that you don't use games against non-GTA teams. What if an unranked team went to a strong tournament in a place like Hamilton and won the whole thing against the likes of Cathedral, Orchard Park, More, etc. Would that be taken into consideration?

    Durham Region:

Notre Dame (Ajax) 65 - (Norman Penola 32pts, Damone Donaldson 18pts)
Pine Ridge 52 - (Isiah Swaby 21pts, Cj Williams 16pts)

dame is certainly going to suprise teams just taking out pine ridge in double digets, lookin forward to seeing them play top10 squads.......i was suprised i never seen vaughn rd. in the top 16, i thought they were top 3 in the west, but i guess hooptown knows somthing that we dont, they must have lost alot of playes and martingrove, runnymede and west humber must have shown they have more

There are always special situations that are taken into consideration, however, I tend to focus on GTA match-ups only.

Now The CARR EARLY BIRD and ST.MIKE and other tourney's are over here is the new perspective on the SWEET16:

    (note: DNP=did not play)

    1. Pickering- defeated MT by 11
    2. Eastern Commerce- defeated Oakwood
    3. Oakwood-lost to Eastern by 4
    4. Mother Teresa- lost to Pickering
    5. Henry Carr- defeated Vaughn in 13 in a close game
    6. Vaughan- lost to Henry Carr, defeated West Hill
    7. West Hill- lost to Vaughan by 10
    8. d'Youville*DNP
    9. Campion-*DNP
    10. Loyola- defeated Martingrove
    11. Martingrove- defeated St. Theresa of Lisieux, lost to Loyola
    12. Pine Ridge- lost to Eastern, lost to Notre Dame(ajax) by13 in Exhibition play
    13. Central Commerce-*DNP
    14. Emery-*DNP
    15. Jefferys-lost to West Hill
    16. George Harvey- defeated St.Francis Xavier

HM: Notre Dame(ajax), Father Goetz, Runnymede, St. Francis Xavier, Ascension, Markham, Westview, St. Theresa of Lisieux, Earl Haig

    NOTE:

One thing i learned from all these results and watching a few tournaments is that any team is BEATABLE at any given night

    example:

#5 Carr- struggling vs. #11 Vaughn (tied 2:43 minutes left 4th)--Vaughn living at the 3pt line
#9 Martingrove- up on #1 Mother Teresa 1st half (back and forth until mid 4th)
#10 Loyola- blowing out the same #9 Martingrove team that almost upset #1 Mother Teresa
#4 Pickering- handling #1 Mother Teresa
#3 Oakwood- almost upsetting #2 Eastern
#11 Vaughn- defeated #6 West Hill by 10 @Vaughn SS. Tournament
#12 Pine Ridge- lost to Notre Dame(ajax) in Exhibition?..there must have been a reason(absent players, ect..)
George Harvey- win Silverthorn Nike Invitational deafeating #16 St. Francis Xavier

SO THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR THAT I CAN SAY THERE CAN BE SURPRISES ANYWHERE ....(this is exciting and this is what i call basketball)

If you actually saw Loyola play at the Henry Carr Early Bird tourney, you would not doubt that team for a one second. Loyola is quick, athletic and intense. They get out in transition in a lightening quick manner, they pressure the ball constantly on defense and have some depth to. Slick Rick did his homework and his pre-season ranking is rather accurate.

After watching two of their games at Carr, I think Loyola will definitely be a contender in Peel this year. Very athletic, play pressure defense and have a few guys who can finish. Was very impressed. They may be the favourites in the south but we will have to see how the other teams stack up.
