Nice job Vaughan, good luck in championship game!

BTW - Algonquin College, don't they carry 19-22 year olds?

Algonquin plays in the OCAA, the same league as teams like Sheridan and Humber. Algonquin is also the #1 ranked team in Canada right now though a lot of the college teams don't play with full rosters at these pre-Christmas tournaments since many of the out-of-town players go home for the holidays.

    Good luck Vaughan!

It's makes sense that Dawson College had a full lineup. CGEP schools tend to draw a much higher percentage of local students than Ontario colleges as they are more integrated into the smaller towns and cities, negating the need to go out of town for those taking the university track programs or the more popular college programs.

Hopefully no one thinks I am diminishing Vaughan's accomplishments. They are playing prep schools, Ontario colleges with players many years older, and Quebec CGEPs that are the equivalent of grade 12 & 13 regional all-star teams. Simply making it to the final is a great accomplishment.

Vaughn should be extremely proud of their showing at the Sun Youth tournament. Their semi-final double ot win vs. Lee Academy was one of the most exciting high school games I've ever seen, 115-109 final that had just about everything. Vaughn was up over 20 early, Lee came back and tied it up and took the lead, Vaughn came back was up 3 late, when a 6'9 centre hit a 3 at the buzzer to force OT. Lee was up 10 in the OT when Troy Reid-Knight hit 2 NBA 3's in the last 15 seconds to force 2nd OT, where Vaughn took the lead, and Lee fouled out 3 starters and ended the game playing with 4 guys, and still had a chance to make it a one possession game late in the 2nd ot on a 3 on 1 when the ref was way out of position in the middle of the floor and knocked over the Lee fast breaker causing a turnover that sealed it!! What a finish. Wiggins was ridiculous. Dunking on everyone. Roberts hitting 3's all over the place, Walters blocking Lee's D1 front line. Tan penetrating into the lane at will. Vaughn is not a one man team. Keep thinking that and watch them win ofsaa.

They were down over 20 early in the final v. Algonquin and coulda packed it in, tired, bruised up but they sucked it up and came back to tie the game early in the 3rd quarter, (Fiba). Ran out of gas, but gave a top college team everything they could handle. Funniest moments of the final: 1. Algonquin coach jokingly trying to recruit the Vaughn starters during the pregame introductions; 2. Algonquin starting guard taking off his shorts and putting them back on, (had them on backwards), during the first whistle of the game in the middle of the floor in front of everyone!

Congrats to Coach G and his staff for the discipline, composure and unselfish play his team played with all weekend. Playing older more physical teams and holding there own will only make them better down the stretch as playoffs approach. ....And they're all young and can be back next year!!!

Was BJ Charles playing in the tournament? He was a star with St. Pat's back when they won medals at AAA OFSAA in the late 90's (when AAA was the largest category) and then played for Carleton. He still had a couple of years of eligibility left and went to Algonquin though he was not going to play until second semester.
