Henry Carr Challenges Prep/Club Teams Empty Henry Carr Challenges Prep/Club Teams

Post by Henry Carr Basketball Sun Sep 23, 2012 2:04 pm

The Father Henry Carr Senior Boys' High School team has a plan for playing "prep" or 'club" teams. Ideally, we would invite another high school team and two prep/club teams to play a doubleheader at Henry Carr, either on an evening in the weekend or a Saturday afternooon. The days are dependent upon permit availability.

For example, this might be an example of a Friday evening doubleheader:

    Game 1: 5 pm - Fr Henry Carr vs 1st Prep/Club Team

    Game 2: 6:30 pm - 2nd High School Team vs 2nd Prep/Club Team

Another possibility is to play these two games on a Friday evening, then come back on Saturday and switch opponents:

    Game 3: 5 pm - Fr Henry Carr vs 2nd Prep/Club Team

    Game 4: 6:30 pm - 2nd High School Team vs 1st Prep/Club Team

If that is the accepted format, I would ask each team to pay the cost of one official for each game.

Are there any high school teams interested in this?

Are there any prep/club teams interested in this?

Are there any fans who want to see these games?

This is the response from the NPSAA administration: "In order to host or play in events involving NPSAA teams you must be a registered member".

Henry Carr will not become a member of the NPSAA in the near future, so I suppose these games will not happen.

This is unfortunate, because we were excited to see how true high school teams matched up against these club teams. From our standpoint, tough competition is good for character building, team building and development.

    The offer stands.

what about prep schools from the US or a European Club team? You can e-mail the coaches and confirmed whether they can make it or not. It doesn't have to be NPSAA teams. Try suggesting Huntington Prep and Oak Hill Academy. If these two teams are confirmed, I can guarantee that there will be a lot of people attending those games

As much as it would be great to play Huntington or Oak Hill...when we tried to help out last season in bringing St Benedicts to Toronto, they expected us to pay their expenses. I can assure you that we will not be paying any team's expenses.

That is too bad coach. It would be fun to see how your team and others would fare against a good prep team. Huntinton and Oak Hill would not be afraid like the NPSAA.

ha ha. They don't want to get involved, cause if they get spanked, then everyone will know they are crap.

Good for you for putting the challenge out. Wayne Dawkins is a great businessman he knows not too get involved, not in his best interests.

Based off of twitter, it's looks like Thornlea will take on Henry Carr. Coach Melnik has been hungry for this and so has the public.

Thornlea vs. Henry carr @ Henry Carr Friday. $3 students $5 adults. 5:30pm everyone come watch ! (according to twitter)

Basketball seems to be all about making money no matter what direction you try to spin it.
