2014 OFSAA AAAA Boys in Mississauga - Seeds Pg 3

A reminder that this year's OFSAA 4A championship will be hosted by ROPSSAA with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and QF round matches at Xavier, Mount Carmel and Philip Pocock on March 3 & 4. The final four will be held at Humber College North Campus on March 5th. We hope to have full access to the official OFSAA web site by the end of the month and we'll start posting info as it becomes available. We'll also have the twitter account up and running by then.
 
A couple of coaches have asked about berths. The event will return to an 18-team format this year. Currently the allotted berths are as follows:
 
National Capital: 1 (Can be challenged by Eastern or Central Ontario)
Georgian Bay: 1
York Region: 1
Durham Region: 1
Toronto Public: 2
Toronto Catholic: 2 (1 + defending silver medal region as host region already has 2 berths)
Independent Schools: 2 (1 + defending gold medal region)
Peel: 2
Golden Horseshoe: 1
Southern Ontario: 1
Central-Western Ontario: 2
Western Ontario: 1
Southwestern Ontario: 1
 
As the Independent schools region only has one boys 4A team I have inquired about whether or not they will use the 2nd berth. A school has the option of declaring 4A by January and playing up. If that doesn't happen then the berth will go to the defending bronze medal region which is Golden Horseshoe.

The website is now partially up and running. Most of last year's info has been cleared out and we have started adding info to a number of sections. More info will be added as it becomes available. A tentative schedule will also be posted soon, once we have approval from OFSAA.

Rimrocker, best of luck with the tournament. Do you know under what scenario would Peel get a 3rd entry? If 2 of the 18 entries decline?

Also, do you know how many 4A boys teams there are in ROPSSAA compared to the rest of the associations?

I wonder if OFSAA has ever considered the BC Provincial Championship tournament model?

The only time the rules wold allow a third entry from a region would be in an emergency situation. The only time I can remember in recent memory was boys AAAA soccer in 2005. A team had to withdraw a day or two before the tournament so the host convener from Father Goetz was permitted to enter his own team as a replacement. ROPSSAA went on to take the top three spots: Augustine won gold, Notre Dame won silver and Goetz won bronze. Since ROPSSAA already receives two entries there will be no host entry. Extra berths are awarded in the following order:

- host entry
- previous year's gold medal region
- previous year's silver medal region
- previous year's bronze medal region
- previous year's 4th place region
- gold medal region from two year's previous
- silver medal region from two year's previous
- bronze medal region from two year's previous
- 4th place region from two year's previous

Re: Number of schools in 4A. Some classifications might be off as they are based on the previous year's numbers and my public numbers are mostly for this year. However, this is what I have in terms of classification of ROPSSA schools:

4A (30 schools): Leger, Goetz, Notre Dame, Carmel, Pocock, Gonzaga, St. Augustine, Campion, Xavier, St. Joes, Marcellinus, D'Youville, Aquinas, Bramalea, Castlebrooke, Cawthra, Suzuki, Fletcher's, Glenforest, Heart Lake, John Fraser, Louise Arbour, Mayfield, Mississauga, Meadowvale, North Park, Rick Hansen, Sandalwood, Stephen Lewis, Turner

3A (19 schools): Ambrozic, Iona, Cabot, Joan of Arc, Loyola, St. Mike's, St. Roch, Applewood, BCSS, Central Peel, Chinguacousy, Erindale, Graydon, Brathwaite, Humberview, Lincoln, Lorne Park, Port Credit, Woodlands

2A (10 schools): Ascension, RF Hall, St. Martin, St. Paul, Clarkson, Judith Nyman, Streetsville, TL Kennedy, Mentor, Ste. Famille

1A (5): Brampton Christian, Bronte, ISNA, Jeunes Sans Frontieres, Philopateer

What aspect(s) of the BC model are you asking about?

Some more updates to the site, including logo, banquet location, ticket info, link to previous results, and a map of the major venues. The tentative schedule has been approved and will be uploaded soon.

Some updates:

- The CISAA (independent schools) has confirmed that they will use the extra OFSAA berth for a second entrant.

- The host hotel has been chosen and the info will be posted on the web site as soon as the registration links are ready.

- Streaming at Humber on day 3 has been confirmed, with a full, 5-camera set up for the bronze and gold finals. (Semis and consolation finals will be broadcast but number of cameras are uncertain.) The medal finals will also be re-broadcast on Rogers 10 later in March.

- Streaming at Xavier for at least the quarter-finals has been confirmed. Working on possibility of other games at Xavier. Pocock is uncertain and there will not be a stream at Carmel, though only 6 of 34 games will be there.

- Future OFSAA Boys AAAA have been set: 2015 in Windsor and 2016 in North Bay.

So the CISAA is getting 2 entries!

How many schools are in their league?

There are 11 teams in tier 1 though St. Michael's is the only 4A school. The second entry will be a team from a smaller classification that chooses to go up.
