    So how does the AAA, AA and A work? Both tier one and tier two teams can go at each other?

    Since ROPSSAA is 80-90% AAAA schools, the tier 1 playoffs are also the AAAA playoffs.

    Schools that are smaller (tier 1 or tier 2) can declare by the deadline and compete in a separate mini-playoff to be the ROPSSAA rep at A, AA, or AAA. If they declare for one of these tournaments, they can still play in the tier 1 playoffs but they cannot be the AAAA rep even if they make it to the final. (e.g. Ascension in girls tier 1 this season.)

    If there are more than 8 schools that declare for a level, only the top 8 are allowed to compete. The teams are seeded, based mostly on regular season record, with the tier 1 teams seeded ahead of the tier 2 teams.

    the tier 1 teams do not necessarily have to be seeded ahead of tier 2 teams anymore...(ie applewood 4, st martin 5)

    only the top 6 are included in the tournament...

    All Other Associations
    "A" = 1-500
    "AA" = 501-900
    "AAA" = 901-1250
    "AAAA" = 1251 +

    from the OFSAA website

    This happens with York Region as well. All teams can win the York Region title but the"aaa" "aa" teams go into a playoff afterwards with each other depending on how they last in the playoffs. If all teams make it the same distance they will have a playoff. Otherwise whoever goes farthest into the regional playoffs qualifies for their ofsaa.

    The York region's system is different. Reps for each level are based on who goes farthest in the tier 1 playoffs with a game between teams that are tied (e.g. the top two AA teams both make it to the quarter-finals). However, in ROPSSAA, there is a completely separate tournament for each level (A, AA, and AAA) that has nothing to do with the tier 1 or tier 2 playoffs.

    If Sandalwood beat Mississauga in the AAA playoffs but Mississauga went further than Sandalwood in the tier 1 playoffs, Sandalwood would still be the AAA champion from ROPSSAA.

    In the end, the AAA and AA champs probably won't make it to OFSAA since they will have to get through the likely GHAC champs: Assumption (AAA) and Aquinas (AA). Ascension might have a bit of a chance against Aquinas since they have been hot and cold this season but there is no way Sandalwood or Mississauga beats Assumption.

    Peel Fan, you are right ... the Peel AA champ will be the underdog to a very strong STA team. It will take a great game to beat them. If we can win our next game against Stephen Lewis, we do look forward to the challenge. At least we will have our home gym and not have to battle he GHAC refs as well! (as we did last year).
