Tough loss in OT.
Now the daunting task of facing the U.S. who have been routinely putting up scores in the 100+ range. Yesterday they had 126 in their win over Puerto Rico (126-73).
Regardless of the outcome of the semi Canada is still contending for a top three finish and a spot in the U-17 World Championship next year.

Coach Clement a question by Know It all was asked and I think you missed it.:"Coach Clement, you stated that “the talent level of the players is exceeding our ability to develop that talent” which I totally agree with, however, I have a couple of questions. (1) What do we need to do in order to help these young men achieve their potential? (2) What is missing/lacking from our coaching to help these young men develop?"-Know IT All.

I saw the question but for now chose not to answer.
I have my thoughts but for now will keep them to myself. I'll say this much I think a lot of our problems lie with Canada Basketball.
Having a Cadet team competing for the first time in a qualifying tournament for a World Championship is a positive.
I would prefer to keep my comments positive at this time.

coach clement until we start voicing our opinions and concerns, we'll never fix the problem. id like to have your input as well as others to help make it better. instead of bashing all the time, lets hear from coaches, players, media as to how to make it better.
this would be a great ppost to put up coach

No, they are playing the U.S in the semi finals. Overall, Canada had a strong showing at this qualifier. They are most definetly a growing force, and with the talent getting better every year, its time for Canada Basketball to start advancing along with the talent. Coaching, training, funding all have to progress with this youth in order for us to make a stamp come Olympics and The World's.

there game against the usa will be a well-heated one. However, i think the usa will come out on top... they're just too loaded with talent. They have speed, athlectism, shooters , and definately SIZE. I just dont think Canada is big enough to match up with some of their bigs despite having a premier big man in anthony bennet... USA roster....

Corporate Sponsorship... Canada Basketball needs the financial resources to support their objectives.
SImple and Logical answer... MLSE.
Not sure why they haven't stepped up and given the bucks. It doesn't make sense that MLSE wouldn't fork up the cash... after all... Canada Basketball is a non profit organization... MLSE would get a tax receipt for every dollar they would give.
Blame it on the Teachers Pension Fund!!!

They play Venezuela for the bronze medal and a spot in the World Championships in Germany next year.
The loser would be eliminated in terms of a berth in the World Championships.
Argentina and the U.S. have already qualified.

Petro, normally you're commentary is on-point, however you really need to study some accounting and perhaps read the books of MLSE before casting judgements on how they should run their business.
Sorry if my pension fund is actually trying to serve it's purpose - ensure it's membership has money when it's time to retire. But really, their role with Canada Basketball shouldn't be direct anyway. The foundation branches of MLSE give quite a bit to community - including Basketball at all levels. The NSO needs to develop a large group of patrons and funders who will give time and money to grow the sport. If MLSE can do anything, it's send a letter to all it's rich Raptors season ticket holders and get them connected to the bigger picture.
BTW, didn't the Raptors flip the bill for NEDA this year after funding was cut short?

U16 Team
Good Win, the final numbers would tend to indicate the "regional politics" did handicap the national U16 team. The "preselected members": F Duke 6-3 G from Nova Scotia (7 p, 1 r in 5 games!!); B. Taylor 6-4 G from Edmonton (2 p, 5 r in 5 games!!); J. DeCiman 6-3 G from Regina (16 p, 19 r in 5 games) resulted in a team of guards (8 in total), which had difficultie with Argentina and USA (US had 6 G and 6 F/C). The USA had 4 forwards/centres over 6-8 (Cdn had 2?), which resulted in fouls versus Arg and a difficult situation versus USA. One of the Canadians over 6-8, is also questionable, R. Evans 6-10 only had 9 reboundsand 6 points in 5 games not very competitive! He was a try-out selection, might have been pressure for an Ottawa member, rather than Dunlop or Jankovic from the team that play in Germany? Great job, but we need some size versus the top teams, our teams need the best Canadian players, and forget the other agendas.

Setshot, when you said that "regional politics" handicapped the team did you mean that there were too many players from Toronto on the team?
