A great interview with Lorenzo Romar who likens Terrence Ross to Brandon Roy:

Hope Ross is the real deal... a go to "franchise player" kind of guy.

And hope he develops real quick and contributes immediately... this would take pressure off of JV.

I've always said that you need a dominant wing player (at both ends) to win in this league. Demar is good but not dominant.

Hope Ross is that guy. He has the physical tools - but does he have the mental capacity to bring it every night - cuz that's what separates the good from the dominant.

    That will require time.

Hopefully Kleiza can contribute more while this kid develops.

He appears healthy and ready to bring some of what he does for Lithuania! That would be a huge boost for the team.

In post on NBA.com Acy and Ross ranked very high by their fellow rookies in terms of athleticism but J-V did not get a single vote in any category!See link below:

Ignorance is bliss. These are American players who have no clue about J-V or anyone outside their country.

I demand a re-vote in December and I bet J-V will be a known commodity.

I think we also have to remember that JV was drafted last year and they focused on this year's crop, he's a rookie in that he hasn't played in the league yet but he's not a rookie with respect to the draft year. so he's dropped off the media radar really for now...

Heard on the fan59 that JV might miss some training camp with a tendon injury in the calf.

I sure hope not. This kid needs to be on the court and playing from the first drill.

It seems that the injury is not serious but I agree J-V has a huge adjustment to make and needs all the time he can get!

Jose is as usual the ultimate team guy!

Training camp starts tomorrow in Halifax. Two a day practices until Saturday at 12:00 culminating in the team Intrasquad Game.

There are 18 players on the training camp roster but JV will be handled very carefully. Hopefully he's able to get some reps in!

    Barkley dismissive of Raptors:

He loves to hate on the Raptors. Is it because we are not based in the USA?

JV shines on Media Day in spite of language. I think he will be very popular once the adjustment period is over! He's a very likeable young man!

Amico only calls for four more wins for revamped Raptors. He finds lots of positives so this just doesn't add up!

I know they've played only two ex. games... but I don't see this team going anywhere.

The reason mainly being... Demar Derozan.

His jumper is too inconsistent and he's too soft at both ends of the floor.

Unless they are able to run a high speed offense and use Demar to his strengths... then he will just be the guy who will be good on some nights and invisible on others.

Hope I'm wrong... but I just don't see it!

Kyle Lowry would definitely help in terms of pushing the ball.

I agree DeRozan has looked terrible. Maybe Ross takes some of his minutes.
Bargnani has been slow getting up to speed as well.

I like Lucas III and JV played with energy and will also help with transition once he gets some game and practice time under his belt!

I'm still hoping for good things - as always!!!

I like Derozan, seems like a genuine good guy... just wish he had some nasty in him.

It's very early yet but it appears that this team....

    1) Needs to run to be successful. There is no real reliable back to the basket low post scorer on this team (again). When you live with the jump shot you die with the jump shot. Calderon and Lucas are shooting too much for point guards.

    2) Appears vulnerable to teams with inside power players. Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond bullied their way to the hoop with impunity last night, with only Amir Johnson and Aaron Gray appearing willing to mix it up with them.

    3) Has come out flat two games in a row now, with the first five guys shooting inaccurately, in no flow, and playing terrible defense. 37 points allowed against the Pistons in the first quarter was sobering. It took guys like Alan Anderson to play some semblance of NBA level defense.

They need to get Lowry in there to establish some defense at the point. Jose puts so little pressure on the passer that the highlight lobs over his head are sure to follow.

    4) Has more depth than last year. This second unit shows potential as an energy group which pushes the ball (Lucas, Johnson, Anderson, Ross, Mcguire).

    5) Needs to thin out this roster as there is still a lot of teaching and learning in order. Neither Ed Davis nor Quincy Acy inspire confidence right now and Landry Fields poor shooting from 2011/12 appears to be an ongoing problem. If you are going to be a swingman in the NBA you need to be able to shoot the ball, even if you are a solid defensive player. Another questionable high dollar free agent pick up by Bryan Colangelo, who seems to have a knack for this type of acquisition.
