Late Season Junior Super Sixteen Empty Late Season Junior Super Sixteen

Post by Coach Clement Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:58 am

In the course of accepting volunteers to help with next year's Coaches Poll, I received this list from a coach whom I respect. I thought it was quite accurate.

    What is your opinion?

I have cut and pasted from his e-mail.

Here is my final analysis for the year 2008/2009:

    1. Father Henry Carr A
    2. Vaughan S.S
    3. Pickering
    4. John Paul II
    5. Notre Dame (Ajax)
    6. Mother Teresa
    7. Henry Carr B
    8. Eastern
    9. Oakwood
    10. Richview
    11. Dunbarton
    12. D'Youville
    13. Xavier
    14. St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS (Vaughan)
    15. Newmarket HS
    16. STL

Honourable Mentions: Westhill, Sandalwood, Father Goetz, Campion, BCSS

After the top 10, I believe their is a log jam of GOOD teams between 10 - 25 that can be debated. Each of these teams can compete with the top 10 but must play well to win. I believe The top 6 teams are solid in their ranking.

Very good ranking. Its tough to rank after the top 10, as there is alot of parity.
Here is some interesting information for people to consider:

    In the York region play-offs
    STL defeated Brebeuf
    Newmarket defeated STL

    In the Brampton Centennial tournament
    Campion defeated STL
    BCSS defeated Campion
    Sandalwood defeated STL and BCSS

I personally think West Hill is top 16.

    Possible Peel Region Q-final match-ups:
    D'Youville vs Sandalwood
    Campion vs Xavier
    Goetz vs Brampton Centennial

I am not 100% in agreement myself.

I do think Newmarket deserves to be there.

Also maybe BCSS should be in the top 16.

The problem for a lot of teams was consistency but maybe that means there is greater parity in Junior this year! Smile

    Zens List

    D'Ville

    Westhill Defeated D'ville
D'ville lost to Holy Trinity (Oakville)

Xavier defeated Richview in the Rim Rocker so I would have to say they maybe in the wrong spot also

    Eastern - Too High

Eastern lost to - Monsignor Johnson
    - St. Francis Xavier

So I think your list needs some work in the middle for sure

    Zens List:

    1. Father Henry Carr A
    2. Vaughan S.S
    3. Pickering
    4. John Paul II
    5. Notre Dame (Ajax)
    6. Mother Teresa
    7. Henry Carr B
    8. Eastern
    9. Oakwood
    10. Richview
    11. Dunbarton
    12. D'Youville
    13. Xavier
    14. St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS (Vaughan)
    15. Newmarket HS
    16. STL

Pope 3rd? I dont think that is correct, even though Pope beat Pickering in the SBA Semis, they lost to many games compared to Pickering - I believe its a split win, So Definitely Pickering doesn't lose their spot

ND (Ajax) - 8th? - They Beat MT in the SBA Tournament

Henry Carr B - Lost To MT and need to be 7th overall

    Mt - definitely 6th or 5th

4 York region teams? jokes...... STL is not that good, BCSS and Sandalwood are better than them. d'Youville should be higher as they trounched Oakwood by 20, barely lost to pickering, and their b team beat richview. Pope is a bit high.

Newmarket was the 2nd best team in York hands down, they beat STL twice..
did ure skewl vs Vaughan? if they did they probably would of been beat by more then 50. so stop saying Newmarket is lucky. Are u the 2nd best school in york tier 1?

No York Region school should be up there except for Vaughan. They can't even beat a press. Period!

Xavier beat ND ajax, eastern commerce, richview, stl,campion.. They lost to MT by 5 but were missing two starters. They are now in the semis of peel. They should be a top 10 team

Shouldn't a final top ten for the season be determined at the end of the season? Peel's playoffs continue for another week and I believe there is one more significant tournament.

These are the stats for St. Michael's College. It is obvious from this that they should be up there possibly Top Five.

    32-3

    Loss to Pickering by 6
Close loss to Notre Dame Ajax in their tournament championship game
Beat Pickering, Richview (twice), Sandalwood, Emery

Close loss to Carr B at Metros

    Barrie Roundball Champions
Belleville Nicholson College Hoops for Hope Champions
    Richview Invitational Champions

    dawg,

No they were not in a lot of the big tournaments.

They beat Pickering A (who were a little undermanned), Richview (a very solid team) and played ND close. That indicates to me that they can play.

    They deserve consideration imo.

Another team that is a little under the radar is Holy Trinity (Oakville)

Results are important, but I think teams that competed at the best tournaments with the best teams on a consistent basis deserve some special attention.

I agree it would be hard to be 32-3 if you did.

Its strength of schedule (like the RPI).

Some teams lost a lot more games but they were facing high-quality opposition on a regular basis.

I may have been off-the-mark saying Top Five but lower Top Ten maybe!
