The only reason martingrove lost by 20 is because they gave up and took out their starters.

Good tournament for D'youville! I watched them at the Eastern Commerce Holiday Tournament against Commerce and was really impressed with their overall play. I knew from the way they battled Eastern that they were a legit top 16 team. They finally got a chance to play against some of the lower end teams on the ranking and got some wins. Good Tourney for Notre Dame (Brampton)....I picked the wrong ND in squad in the final against J Clarke...I went with the boys from Welland.

    J. Clarke crushed Martingrove at Early Bird - up by like 30 after 3 quarters
If Martingrove gets props for their one win over Carr then J Clarke should get better respect for whipping Martingrove - neither team had full squad then not just martingrove
what has martingrove won that they have better body of work?
searching hooptown I see J Clarke has entered four tournaments - consolation champs at early bird and theyve won the other 3 (Pine Ridge's David Preston, Ajax and Rimrocker)

I think 1-5 are at one level and then 6-15 next tier
nine times out of ten those top 5 beat the rest
sure anyone can beat anyone on a given day - why vegas makes money - but these ranks should not be based on 2006-2008

    Achiever,

I agree with most of the things you said. Teams 1-5 (Henry Carr, Eastern, Pickering, Oakwood and Loyola) are the elite teams this year. These teams will sustain losses to each other and may lose the odd game to someone else. However, they are the most consistent.
    Oakwood no losses
Henry Carr to my knowledge has now two losses to Pickering and Martingrove
Loyola(Oakville) has losses to Oakwood and Holy Trinity (Oakville)
Eastern has losses to Vaughn, Henry Carr, Loyola (Oakville)
Pickering has losses to Henry Carr, Eastern, St. Thomas More, Mother Teresa

Now, I think that teams 6-10 are the second tier teams (Vaughn, J Clarke, Pine Ridge, Mother Teresa, Martingrove) these teams will sustain losses to each other and the teams in the top 5 and may lose the odd game to somebody lower on the top 16 or honourable mention. The top 10 has been real consistent all year. The only teams that have lost some ground are Martingrove, MT and Campion. Martingrove and MT have moved out of the top 5 and Campion is probably gone from the Top 16 altogether.

J Clarke has losses to Pine Ridge and Henry Carr
Pine Ridge has losses to J Clarke, Oakwood, Pickering, Henry Carr, Brebeuf
Mother Teresa has losses to Pine Ridge, Pickering, Carr, Loyola, Oakwood and also Vaughn
Martingrove has losses to J Clarke, Campion, Henry Carr, Laurier, Vaughn
Vaughn has losses to Campion, St. Mikes, Henry Carr

The teams ranked 11 and downward are always changing with the exception of St. Mikes. These are not consistent week in and week out. New teams are emerging on the list and then taking a step back. Some of the teams that are off the radar are starting to come into their own and challenge some of the established teams on the bottom end like Xavier. I think that trend will continue. I do believe that D'youville and Brampton (Notre Dame) will probably hold down spots 11-12 when the new rankings come out.

Yeah! I think that J Clarke has a better body of work than Martingrove. Also, they have a win against them head to head. I don't think they have any tournament wins...they probably should have won the Vaughn Road Viper Tourney. However, Martingrove has played a tougher schedule...J Clarke has had match ups against 3 top ten teams and are 2-2...wins over Martingrove and Pine Ridge...Losses to Pine Ridge and Mother Teresa. Martingrove has had match ups against 4 top ten teams so far. They have lost to Campion, Vaughn, Henry Carr, J Clarke. However, at full strength they are the only team to beat Henry Carr at this point in time. They have a record of 1-4 against the top ten, but, has played better teams.

Teams should not give up period. The best teams play hard all the time..even if they are frustrated because things are not ideally going their way......there is a word for it...its called "mental toughness"....the best teams are mentally tough....you play hard for 32 minutes regardless of the score...you may lose the game on the scoreboard, but, your opponents will respect you

So Mother Teresa won the league game against Neil McNeil? As for Pope John Paul, no is forgetting them at all. What is happening is that they aren't playing anybody in the Top 16 right now. All of the other teams are going back and forth playing against each other. All the top ten teams are routinely going head to head in the top tier tournaments like the Eastern Commerce Holiday tournament and the Rimrocker that just recently passed and the lower ranked teams are going head to head in the second tier tournaments. All of these teams playing each other is making the job of ranking teams easier. The problem comes with teams that are not playing those games like George Harvey, Pope, St. Mikes, Laurier.....the top ten is solid...the question is what to do with all the Peel teams beating on each other? WHose better Mount Caramel or Brampton Cenntenial? Whose better Notre Dame (Brampton) or D'youville? Whose better Ascension or Campion? Whose better Xavier or St. Augustines? Who is the best team in Peel? Once that is worked out, then spots 11-16 and honourable mentions will be taken care of.

Congratulations to Pickering High! That a real quality win for them. That St. Mikes Tournament is going to be incredible because they are on the same side of the draw with Eastern and Henry Carr. I think Eastern and Henry Carr should meet in the quarter-finals. The winner of the CARR/Eastern match-up should play Pickering in the semi's. Winner of that game will probably get Oakwood in the final. Between that and the Mother Teresa Tournament it should get real interesting before playoffs.

    Coach Melnik,

You don't even have to dignify that with a response. You're team has done an excellent job up to this point. You're team has lost focus a few times and lost to Martingrove..which your squad quite impressively avenged and it sounds like you played a good 30 minutes against Pickering instead of 32 minutes and lost...other than that you've done well so far. Those losses will just serve as a reminder not to be complacent when the game is still in doubt. You're team is young and somwhat inexperienced so those things happen sometimes...better to experience those things now than in the playoffs or OFSAA. Just get'em ready for the St. Mikes Tournament!!!

P.S. For the record, you're right you've beaten more top 10 teams than anybody else including number #1 Oakwood. You guys are 6-2 against the top 10 and 7-2 against the top 16 GTA teams.

Thanks for the compliment! However, my man Slick Rick does a great job. I'm a big fan of GTA Basketball....particularly this year since it is so wide open....really and truly a number of teams could win. It may come down to who is playing the best on that OFSAA week and weekend...not necessarily the best team all year.

Take it to heart? LOL I think you misunderstand foreveryoung. Although I agree we may be inconsistent, a record of 19-2 taking on all comers is pretty good, and compares favourably to the other top teams. Both losses could have just as easily been wins.

I am not sure who you are backing, but we will likely play them sooner or later.
