why do the A and AA YRAA teams have to play a "win and in" game and AAA and AAAA dont?

The number of teams in the region at each level is not the same.

ROPSSAA is one of the most extreme examples: As of last year, they had 39 AAAA schools (the most in the province), 9 AAA, 5 AA, and 4 A (of which three did not compete at the senior level). That's why they have 2 AAAA berths but split with GHAC at the other three levels.

    Xavier Rimrocker,

I should probably already know this but can you tell me why double and quad A have 18 teams at ofsaa basketball but single and triple only get 16? Is it because there are more double and quad schools than single and triple? I like the idea of having the winning association get two bids in the next ofsaa but this rarely happens in A and AAA and always happens in the other two. The home association almost always will take the extra bid (I don't blame them) so there is no need to take the previous year's winner for an extra spot.

At one point they were all 16 but there was a strong push at the AGM to increase the AA and AAA to 18 in order to accommodate areas that had enough schools to merit two berths. In the case of AAAA, it was a compromise between the strength and depth of the GTA and the need to make sure that it was still an Ontario-wide tournament.
