Post by Xavier Rimrocker Fri Dec 17, 2010 5:56 pm

Grand River has withdrawn due to a depleted roster during the Rimrocker. They have been replaced by Pickering who were originally part of the 32-team lineup but had been forced to withdraw due to an admin decision that has since been modified, allowing them to participate.

The original post has been updated.

No, Carr is not banned from Peel tournaments and whether or not they have Peel players is irrelevant to the Rimrocker and other Peel tournaments. Either Tart is guessing or he is trying to stir things up. I would recommend leaving the whole topic alone or admin is simply going to start removing provocative posts.

Downsview originally entered the Junior Rimrocker but their coach withdrew the team after Hoop-It-Up.

The Rimrocker is the only Peel tourney a team like Carr would attend anyway. None of the other ones host elite teams.

As far as the Rimrocker is concerned, they used to go and then their players did something very dumb and now they don't come any more.

Having Peel players on their roster kind of pales in comparison.

A bit of Junior Rimrocker finals history:

    2010: Pickering over Vaughan
    2009: Pickering over Vaughan
2008: Henry Carr 'A' over Pickering
    2007: D'Youville over Campion
    2006: Pickering over D'Youville
2005: St. Thomas More over Eastern Commerce

    2005 was a 16-team tournament. It expanded to 32 teams in 2006.

06 Cory Joseph was playing for Pickering.

It would have been a shame if Pickering wasnt able to participate this year. Good thing they got back in.

Corey was a key contributor that year though Jonathan Tull won the MVP award.

    Previous MVPs:

    2010: Damion Rashford (Pickering)
    2009: Mikyle McIntosh (Pickering)
    2008: Kadeem Thompson (Carr ‘A’)
    2007: Rohan Stevens (D’Youville)
    2006: Jonathan Tull (Pickering)
2005: Eric Elliot (St. Thomas More)

2005 was a particularly good year, with players like David Boyle, Ryan Christie (both More) and Junior Cadoughan (Eastern) making the finals.

Fortunately, admin was able to find a reasonable compromise that allowed Pickering to participate. I would also like to thank the coach of Grand River who decided that, since his team would be missing key contributors and would no longer be competitive, he would withdraw and wait for another year when the team can compete. One thing I have always appreciated is the honesty of the junior coaches in deciding if their team belongs in the tournament. It is one of the primary reasons that it has remained such a competitive tournament from year to year.

It was a down year for the Senior Rimrocker this year I think compared to the competition in previous years. Hopefully one day soon the Senior Rimrocker will attract some of the GTA's better teams.

Im pretty sure I have seen every Junior Rimrocker final. They are some of the most exciting games Ive ever watched.

I think the 06 final had Brandon Tull and Cory Joseph square off against Kamran Alvi and Vik Seghal. Great game. Aswell as the 09 final when Pickering pulled off the upset over Vaughn.

Hamilton basketball still has a lot of ways to go compared to GTA Basketball but they are improving. I heard McNab beat Thomas More in semis tournament in Niagara. I heard Thomas More is a one man team, one of their guard is sick. Campion slapped McNab by a lot in the finals to win it all in Niagara. If McNab can't beat Campion, I don't think they will be a strong contender in Rimrocker. GTA teams are stronger and will still be the favorites in Rimrocker.

bballnow .. I guess you were watching the game. What was the final score and how much did McNab lost to Campion? I just heard from a source that Campion slapped McNab to win the championship and Campion was also missing one of their key player to injury. Keep in mind Campion is not even Honorable Mention in GTA basketball. Good luck in Rimrocker.
