Best Of York
This year I think Markham District will take it. What other teams will be able to compete with them?

Re: Best Of York
It will interesting this year, Markham has lost a lot of their strength with Adam Folker graduating and of course moving onto to UC-Irvine. They still have a lot of talent with Brandon Bos, Sebastien Clarke and others, I thikn Aaron Davis is a good player who did not see much playing time a year ago but should contribute this year.
I think Milliken should be strong they have some good talent there, some of their guys are young which is always a bonus. I think Vaughan is still the team to beat. You guys know me and know that I never go against the champs to start off a season.
Of course Sacred Heart is the premiere program in York Region and will be strong again, and St. Theresa by all accounts have high hopes again this year.
I can't wait for another great season of YRAA Basketball.
Hope everybody had a great summer.

Re: Best Of York
From what I hear, Most of St. Theresa's graduates did not graduate and will be returning for their 5th year. Markham will have their young core back minus Adam Folker, but people must remember that this is the team that won the YRAA Tier 1 Junior championship a couple years ago, so don't count them out. I think that Markham should go back to the running game that they had much success with in their championship season in the junior level. This allows them to properly utilize their athletic core.

Re: Best Of York
how is miliken up there? 2 years ago they werent even that good they got into 4th playoff spot but all they have is brandon heath unless some guys are staying back for their 5th year
markham is gonna be good just like jkim said that won 2 years ago so there gonna have a nice core and dont forget about mike forbes one of the most dominant players in york so we can count on this team making it far into playoffs
you guys are also forgetting mcgivney they have a nice team that should make playoffs, probably wont win the whole thing but they wont go down easy
uhs is also gonna have a solid team next year with mike and kevin they did win teir 2 last year and both of them are grade 11...i think these guys can definetely pull off a lot of upsets
the main team your forgetting is brother andre, pouching and kameron are both goin into grade 11 next year and they have a lot of good grade 12's and i heard there gettin a couple of transfers, this team will probably make playoffs and they have potential of making some noise in the playoffs
with this all said and done i think mdhs is gonna take it next year because they probably have the best starting five in york and arguably the best pg in all of york- brandon bos

Re: Best Of York
I think the top teams will be:
Markham (Brandon Bos, Mike Forbes, Sebastian Clarke, Tevin Goodridge)
Brother Andre (Receiving Adrian Von Rossum from St. A + Pouching, Kameron)
Sacred Heart ( Is Scott Laws returning?)
Vaughn (Greg Merrit, CJ Isit, Josh Collins,)
St. Theresa (Nana Kusiasare, David, Kareem,)
These teams will Battle it out for the YRAA Championship.
Any others

Re: Best Of York
There were rumours at the end of last season that Josh wasn't returning. Also, another rumour floating around that Kevin Pangos from Denison is transferring to Sacred Hearts. Are these rumours true? If Kevin was to transfer, would he play in the senior level or continue in the junior level?

Re: Best Of York
Josh Francis isn't at woodbridge anymore.
Tremayne Mckay is planning on transfering, either to markham district or St. Francis in sauga. So until he makes his decision ill leave him out of the picture.

these teams dont even compare to toronto teams and sauga teams. if they were to go into AAAA ofsaa they would get killed. last year vaughn was the best york team by far beating sacred heart in the finals by 20 and they went into AAA ofsaa and they didnt even win that jus shows you if they had gone into AAAA what would have happened. York Region doesnt really have one team that can play at the elite level with father henry carr, mother teresa, eastern and pickering

There's no doubt that in this current era of York Region basketball that none of these teams remotely compare to the big time leagues/conferences/regions in Ontario. York Region basketball plain and simple has not competed with the big boys - however I do not think it is in good taste to come on here and bash, demean, disrespect York Region schools for their inability to compete at OFSAA. It's not something that has been done one time it's not something that has been twice. From what I've seen it has become a common practice among hooptown members to rip apart York Region teams for being "garbage" and so on. This thread was not created to praise York Region for being a basketball hot bed, because it is not. But if you don't think highly of how these teams play, or their inability to compete with the big boys I think it is wrong to come on here and trash them.
Maybe I'm old school and my journalistic nature is taking over. I hope you understand as I am not attacking anyone here I am merely just trying to share my thoughts on this matter.
May God be with you all.

Re: Best Of York
Well said York Observer.
When you look at the dynamics in Toronto you have kids migrating to Eastern Commerce, Father Henry Carr, Mother Teresa and West Hill. They can travel from one end of the city to the other with little if any restrictions. York Region teams don't have this luxury though last year Vaugh, Sacred Heart and Markham District all could compete with virtrually every team in the province save these four and Pickering.
It will be interesting to see the dynamics of Pickering now that they've lost most of their starters.

Re: Best Of York
Thats interesting - I think hes a solid player but I don't see Markham competing for the YRAA championship this year. But obviously its really early, and without knowledge of who has transferred and who has stayed it certainly will not hurt having Ethan Meltz back again
