St. T's has lacked discipline for as long as I can remember, they've had good athletes, but frankly I've doubted their coaching. and Ballingismyhobbie, thats exactly what I am talking about with ridiculous boosts to start off the season..

the Bur Oak comment... I doubt very much they will have a team worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as the Vaughans and Markhams of the YRAA... I guess you will have to prove me wrong..

No, they can't compete with Markham and Vaughn. No one really said that their team will be good, i just said that they have some good players.

    Maximus:

You've doubted St. T's coaching? I think that's a very bold statement. Even though I'm not coaching Senior, I AM a part of the coaching staff at STL, and I take personal offense to your comment.

Do you care to back that statement up?

I played against them for four years straight, and although they had some good athletes, their set piece wasn't very good, and their discipline was shocking at times...at one point, after a game at St. T's, their team was instructed to run suicides after the game..Maybe you could clear up what that was about..or why right after that, one of your players threatened half of our team, "Come to Don Mills and McNicholls, son!" is a direct quote. I'm not going for personal attacks, but the St. T's coaching staff, while I played against them, and I presume they are somewhat the same now, were simply not up to par with the elite of the York Region.

    Maximus,

Sounds like you have a personal problem with people from STL.

Anyway, their set piece wasn't very good? You obviously don't know what you're talking about. We run offences in both the Senior and Junior level which have had a lot of success. Last season, the Junior and Seniors combined for a regular season record of 23-1. Already this season we've played CLOSE games, both the Juniors and Seniors, with elite Toronto teams like West Hill (Seniors losing by four, Juniors by about two). Definitely sounds like 'not up to par' coaching to me...

From your comments, you must go to Thornlea. That's the only time I've made my players run suicides after a game. If I'm right, I'll clarify what happened once you confirm that. In the 8 games I've coached against your school, we're 7-1. I remember the very first game we played four seasons ago (when you were on the team), we were up 20-0 ONE minute in to the game. Definitely sounds undisciplined to me...

If you're going to attack the STL Coach Staff, tell us who you and what school you are from. If you're not going to clarify that, keep your comments to yourself.

I havent played against St T's in two years, so maybe it's gotten better since, or maybe it was just the players executing. I wouldn't think that I would have to say who I am, I thought you would have a better guess than that. And to be fair, this is a forum, and it is no one's responsibility to say who they are for not respecting the coaching of a certain school.

    Coach I'm Grumpy,

I have to agree with Maximus on this one. I fondly remember one of the McGivney tournaments, a player on St. T's, who will remain nameless, tried to sneak into one of Thornlea's huddles during a time-out. I don't care if its high school, that reaks of poor coaching. The fact he wasn't immediately pulled off the court was even worse. I've never seen that happen in any type of basketball game, but leave it to the mighty Lion Nation to pull a stunt like that. Congrats on being involved with that Goon Squad.

Second of all, you're a grown man. You really feel the need to back up your team on a public forum? Grow up.

    My apologies.

Your right, that has nothing to do with the current hierarchy of high school basketball in York, I just got carried away cause talking about St. T's got me thinking of that ridiculous story.

Maximus: Fair enough. If you get a chance this season, come out and watch an STL game and you'll be surprised at what you see. I promise you that. There's been a lot of changes. We start our season next Wednesday against Richmond Hill, @ Richmond Hill HS. Nothing like a season-opener at a cross-town rival!

    Maximus,

Look forward to seeing you out. As I'm sure you know, YRAA.com has or will have the entire schedule posted. If you catch one of our game, come over and say hi.

In regards to your question, Vaughan, as usual, looks like a great team. They are the defending YRAA champions so you can't sleep on them, despite some big player departures. ANY defending champion should not be overlooked.

Obviously, West Hill also is an elite team with some incredible players.

When you have two solid teams face off early in the season and Vaughan has home-court advantage, anything can happen. Kudos to Vaughan!

Vaughn has one of the best shooters in YR in Josh Collins. Even without the Wiggins, they should be a powerhouse in YR.
St. Theresa looks hard to beat as their 5th year players are very strong. Very athletic squad who put up a very good game against West Hill.
Markham will be a team that people should keep an eye on, even with the loss to West Hill, still a very strong team. Not a team that will overwhelm you with size, but great point guard play from Brandon Bos along with some good wing players.
Brother Andre, in my opinion, will not be as successful as people say, I think that the loss of Kameron Latouche will be very greatly affected. The addition of Adrian Van Rossum should help, but the scoring void left will be hard to fill. Another strong point guard in Anthony Pouching.
