Maybe the reason is that there is a lot more balance between teams this year. Holy Trinity has been one of the top basketball programs in Halton for a few years and Sandalwood has been a top contender in junior the past couple of years so it makes sense that would translate into success at the senior level this year.

Loyola is a good a team, but those who live by the three, eventually die by the three. When their perimeter game is off, their interior game and defence are not there to carry them.

Loyola is a good team, but it is always more difficult to play against traditional rivals...I'm sure HT were given a game plan and match ups were important in this game. Always easier to play someone in a tournament where very little scouting has taken place.
People in the GTA seem to sleep on Halton yet they always come up with good teams...
probably a matter of respect and lack of knowledge, this is understandable. The Halton league is tough this year with 4 excellent teams and and a variety of good ones.
Don't include Assumption in that group as their run is over, very little is left from last years highly ranked team......then again some don't want to include Halton in their ranking. It is funny that Hamilton dismisses Halton and the GTA for the most part ignore them.

RealTalksz wrote:Wow Holy Trinity beats #2 Loyola ..? Sandlewood beats #6 Campion..? there must be a reason for these loses because that is just horrible..
Late seasons for football at schools in Halton are often a factor in the early games. By late January the picture will be much clearer. As was noted the league is probably more competitive right now than in many, many years.

Very nice and accurate list, but it needs a few changes in my opinion.
I don't think ND (Brampton) should be top 16, but HM. If you place a new team in the Super 16 it should be Holy Trinity for beating Loyola or Sandalwood for beating Campion. Go with HT since Loyola was ranked higher then Campion.
Not sure why Nelson is on there.

All of the HM teams have been inconsistent, but are solid squads that can beat any lower super 16 team.

After this weekend's results. i think Loyola Oakville should switch spots with Henry Carr, and Eastern Commerce should b moved up a few spots. Martingrove down a couple, Mother Theresa Down a couple. and Holy Trinity should b somewhere in that list after beating Loyola

D'youville should move up to the top of the honourable mention list. In my humble opinion, they are a legit top 16 team...somewhere between 10-12. I think that they'll make some noise in the Rimrocker tomorrow. Their opening game against J Clarke Richardson should be interesting. I think the winner of that game takes the tournament and the loser will win the consolation game.

I think martingrove should move down a lot. Yes they had a good game against Carr, but they also lost to Carr by 20, lost to Richardson, laurier, vaughan, and campion. I think they should be around 10-11 spot.

I have gone out to all the MAJOR tournaments, the Carr Early Bird, the Humber Classic, the Mark Walton in Hamilton, the Holiday Classic....and no Oakwood...in my humble opinion, Oakwood is ducking the competition. How can we rank them in the one spot when they hide from the big boys? Eastern, Pickering, Carr, they never hide from anyone.
Does anyone agree or disagree?

why silverthorn is not on a top 30 list is beyond me.
They won the southwood invatitional this week winning four game. Vaughn road who you put at 23 beat runnymede by 15 today. silverthorn beat them by 31. They beat richview by 18 and eci by 30. IMO they have to be atleast hon.mention

Silverthorn is a solid team, very well coached. Needs to be considered for top 30. They need a statement win.

i agree. they caught loyola early in the year but trailed that game until late in the 4th. i think i rematch would be suffice. your right though, even backing out of the rimrocker seems fishy. court heinbuch and SOSI were very weak this year. we will see the true oakwood come st mike tourny time and at the silver fox where loyola will most likely meet them in the finals!

Now that you guys mention it, I think Oakwood's number 1 ranking is dependant on the fact that they beat Loyola early in the year and Loyola has put up some impressive victories in return. Who else has Oakwood played against?

oakwood is the best team in gta right now... beating loyola who has beaten pretty much everyone else... and beating mother theresa shows they are the best why punish a team that hasnt lost or didnt have the oppurtunity to down loyola with there big kid until then or the st mikes they are undefeated

That is a weak argument foreveryoung! Beating Loyola is a quality win. But beating MT does not make Oakwood #1, MT has lost to several teams, including Carr who beat them by double digits. You cannot praise a team for playing in weaker tournament, and you can punish them for the same reason. And now they backed out of the Rimrocker? Why? The field is weak, it is perfect for their mentality. I am not disrespecting them, but until they play the top teams on a regular basis, I will doubt their true ability.
