Based on what I see it looks like Oakwood is out / or is there a back door way they can get into Ofssa. It would be a pity if their 2 pt loss to Eastern was the end to their season.I had them easily a top 10 (probable #6) GTA team.

Vaughn Secondary School won OFSAA last year so York Region was awarded an additional berth this year based upon that OFSAA victory in London last season. Bill Crothers got the second berth out of York like I stated earlier in the year. They are a pretty good team.

Xavier Rimrocker can explain the additional berth process better than anyone else on the this site. Additional berths are awarded to regions that traditionally have one regional qualifier such as York, Durham, Windsor, London, Ottawa etc. Regions that have a larger populations get two OFSAA berths...Toronto, Peel, CWOSSA(Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph). If a region that traditionally receives two berths wins a gold medal at OFSAA, then that region will NOT get a third regional OFSAA berth. OFSAA will look at awarding that OFSAA berth the silver medalist.

If that silver medal winning team also comes from a region that traditionally gets two berths (ex. Dyouville and Eastern meet in the OFSAA final), then neither Peel nor Toronto will receive the additional regional OFSAA qualifying berth. OFSAA will award it to the region that the bronze medallist comes from or if need be then the fourth place or antique bronze medal winner. I don't think it has ever come to that point.

The region that hosts OFSAA also gets two berths as well unless that region already receives two berths. This year the Ottawa region will receive two OFSAA qualifying berths. Last year, London received two OFSAA berths and Durham the year before.

West Hill defeated Oakwood 54 to 43 in the City of Toronto OFSAA quarters and they are out. Laurier lost to Eastern 65 to 56 and they are out as well. There is no backdoor chance for for either Oakwood or Laurier.
The semis are on Tues. Feb. 21. at L'Am. York Memo plays West Hill At 12:30 and Eastern plays Silverthorn at 1:45. The winners play on Thurs. Feb. 23rd at Ryerson at 2:00 for the City Championship.
The team who loses in the Semi-final to the Champion gets to challenge the loser to the champion in a
challenge match (back-door game) which will take place at 12:00 noon at West Hill on Fri Feb. 24th.
Only my opinion, but the semis took place when West Hill defeated Oakwood and Eastern defeated Laurier. West Hill and Eastern should advance to OFSAA but good luck to York Memo and Silverthorn.

The 2A representative out of LOSSA or the Durham Region is G.L. Roberts out of Oshawa. They will play against the York 2A Representative for a berth to OFSAA. If it is Woodbridge College, then it should be another great game like last year's finals. It was one of the best games of the year. Woodbridge won it on a buzzer beating 3 pointer by Darnell Landon.

At the 3A level, Dennis O'Connor and Anderson will meet in the LOSSA Final on Thursday February 23rd at Durham College. That will be a great match up as well! Two of Canada's premier players will finally match up against each other in Dyshawn Pierre (Anderson) and Agunwa Okolie (D'OC).

    btownfan,

Toronto is broken up into four regions for league play...north, south, east and west. Eastern and Oakwood play out of the Toronto South region. Eastern beat Oakwood in the Toronto South FINAL. West Hill beat Laurier in the Toronto East final. York Memorial and Silverthorn are the Quad A teams out of the Toronto West Region and Earl Haig and Westview? represented the Toronto North region for QUAD A.

The eight regional teams play off for the two QUAD A OFSAA berths out of the city of Toronto. The two teams that make the final of this 8 team-single elimination tournament qualify for the OFSAA championships in Ottawa. The regional winners from the North, South, East and West match up against the finalists from the other areas in the quarter final games. West HIll is the Toronto East champion and Oakwood is the Toronto South finalist. West Hill defeated Oakwood in the opening round and moves on to the semi finals and Oakwood is surprisingly eliminated early in this event.

Is there still a Toronto City Championship game that is separate from the OFSAA championship qualifications? I would like to see Oakwood and Eastern go at it once more?

Kind of confusing so the game between Eastern and Oakwood was not a playoff game but a end of the season regular game which really meant nothing other than who you played in the first round..Is West Hill that good this year as I've seen Oakwood play and was impressed or would you consider their win an upset.

The Oakwood-Eastern match up was a playoff game. It was the Toronto South Championship game and also qualification into the Toronto eight team playoff for the two QUAD A berths in T.O.

It is a mild upset! West Hill did not start off the season impressively but have played some good basketball over the last few weeks. They had a good showing at the SBA tourney as well. West Hill looks like they are peaking at the right moment of the year.

Oakwood is definitely one of the top teams in the province and the country. It is a tough break that they got eliminated so early but that is the reality of trying to qualify out of Toronto. Over the years, there have been many good teams that would be considered medal threats at OFSAA but failed to qualify out of their region. OFSAA is not necessarily the best teams in the province, but, the best teams from each region in the province.

Oakwood will be fine and will come back better than ever. If that teams stays together, they will be the team to be beat for years to come for three reasons:

They are extremely young (many of their key players are in either grade ten or grade eleven) so Oakwood's best years are still ahead of them. Those young players competed quite well this season despite not having a lot of senior experience.

They are well coached, hard working and disciplined. Coach Miller does a fine job with those guys year in and year out. He will just use this loss as motivation to come back stronger than ever.

Finally, Oakwood has something that nobody else has......SIZE!!! They have a lot of size and those guys are young as well. Oakwood will be fine! Their best years are still ahead of them. If that core group stays together, they probably have two championships coming their way in the near future.

Hey rerun, just to clarify West Hill beat Stephen Leacock in the East Region final. Also, congrats to west hill for their big win over oakwood and to Laurier for their very respectable showing against eastern. I guess the east does play some good basketball.

No, the extra spots are listed at the end of each list. The silver medal region only gets an extra spot if wither the host region or gold medal region already has two berths.
