Game #30- West Hill vs. Leacock
(Toronto East Semi-Finals )
Final Score:
West Hill- 70
Leacock- 61
Leading Scorers:
West Hill- Adrian Tomlinson (25pts, 8asts, 6rbs), Taylor Johnston (16pts, 6rbs)
Leacock- Sean Bingham (16pts), Derick DeJesus (15pts)
Recap:
Well played game by Leacock who did a great job fighting to prolong their season. They fought until the end....
The team's overall record now stands at 25-5, the next game will be Wednesday February 18th at 1pm vs. Laurier in the Toronto East Finals at Seneca College.
On a different note guys, to answer your question and put the issue to rest: No there were no refs at the SCRIMMAGE vs. Loyola, and No their Coach was not supposed to publicize it (as we agreed in a private conversation before the game)...
He made a mistake, and sent me an e-mail to apologize for that mistake. I took him at his word that it was an honest mistake, and tried not to make a big deal about it. (the posting I made this morning about the Toronto Star Top-10 was just out of shock that they mentioned that scrimmage and took it into consideration when it was un-officiated and was supposed to be private....David Grossman and I have discussed the situation, and it should be corrected next week..)
That's that, everyone makes mistakes, and I am not one to dwell on them. Life goes on, and we will continue to do our best to make a push for OFSSAA and make West Hill proud!!

Re: West Hill Warriors Basketball 2008-09
I have to as a observer of the West Hill vs. Leacock game, I thought that Leacock was going to pull off an upset for the ages. The crowd was taken out of the game for a while as Leacock was up 8. This was by far the best game of this region. Those five starters played as hard as they could possibly go and if ONE error was erased they would have taken their AA school to the East region final. I came to the game to see how the Big Three All-Canada, D1 players would play. One word to Coach Philippe is to preach having heart because as I recall in the timeout called by West Hill he screamed to his players to HAVE HEART as Leacock was going on a scoring run shocking the entire gym and West Hill team. "DO NOT EVER UNDERESTIMATE THE HEART OF A TEAM." Because heart might just pull of an upset. Sean Bigham, Derik DeJesus, Alex Butcher, Shawn Tucker, #3(no name) and the rest of that Leacock team held it together and nearly won themselves a semi-final. Seeing how those mentioned played with hunger and determination shows that a lot of underdog players can battle with the D1 prospects. Sean Bigham and Derick DeJesus scored in bunches and Alex Butcher and Shawn Tucker did some dirty work in the paint. (#34 with some work has the potential to be a great player. Good handle and control. Along with the combo of the other four players, he attacked in bunches setting up plays for him and his team). If any one were to say that this game was going to be a blowout was very wrong. (I thought it was going to be a blowout). Congrats to West Hill for advancing.

Game #32- Oakwood @ West Hill
(Quarter-Finals of City Championships/OFSAA Play-Ins)
Final Score:
West Hill- 76
Oakwood- 65
Leading Scorers:
West Hill- Adrian Tomlinson (36pts, 6rbs, 6asts), Alex Arthur (20pts, 7rbs, 2stls)
Oakwood- Julian Clarke (22pts), Daniel Allan (15pts)
Recap:
Coming off a very difficult and hard fought game yesterday vs. Laurier and playing without Taylor Johnston (extremely sick) the Warriors came out and showed major heart in a game for the ages vs. Oakwood. With both teams fighting to keep their OFSAA hopes alive, there was no backing down from either side!
With this very tough match-up, there was little margin for error. After the 1st Quarter, we were up 18-14, by halftime the score was 33-27 in favour of Oakwood, and after the 3rd we had lost ground and were down 13. No one on our team lost hope, and coming out for the 4th quarter the defense locked down and HEART kicked in! The 4th quarter saw a 24 point swing as we went from 13 down to winning by 11.
Hat's off to Oakwood for a toe-to-toe battle that will go down as one of the best games of the season! Like I discussed with the Oakwood Coaches, whoever scheduled our 2 teams in the 1st round of OFSAA Play-ins had a flair for the dramatic!
The team's overall record is 26-6, the next game will be Tuesday Feb 24th vs. the winner of West 2-Etobicoke @ North 1-Newtonbrook in the Semi-Finals of the City Championships/OFSAA Playdowns.

Congratulations coach...
Looks like your team bounced back after a disappointing loss to Laurier. I hope to see a rematch game with Eastern Commerce in the finals. Good luck in the Semi's.

Coach Philippe ,
i would just like to say Congradulation in your 1st year with West Hill and already turning things around with a HUGe win over the favourite Oakwood to get to OFSAA. You really had to fill in big shoes with Coach Dawkins gone. I also like your commitment to the organization always updating us with news and games.
Good luck in Windsor OFSAA 09

No I don't think they are in quite yet. They must win either the city semi-final or "play-in" game (something like that).

Re: West Hill Warriors Basketball 2008-09
Thanks Eye of a Tiger, I appreciate the kinds words and support man...
Just to clarify our situation though, here is the breakdown:
We are playing Newtonbrook on Tuesday Feb. 24th at 2:30pm @ Newtonbrook (City Championship/OFSAA Play-Ins Semi-Final)....
If we win that game, we would play in the City Championship game/OFSAA Qualifier vs. the winner of Eastern Commerce and Silverthorn.
If we win that Championship game, we would qualify for OFSAA directly. If we lost that game we would have a Backdoor game vs. the loser of the Semi-Final (Eastern Commerce or Silverthorn...)
So to simplify, we need to win 2 more games to get into OFSAA.
Still lots of basketball to be played and big games to be won!
(but hey, thanks for the post though, I appreciate the positive support, I've definitely done my best with the program this year and my players have been fantastic! Just trying to do the West Hill legacy proud!)

Game #33- West Hill @ Newtonbrook
(Semi-Finals of City Championships/OFSAA Play-Ins)
Final Score:
West Hill- 75
Newtonbrook- 70
Leading Scorers:
West Hill- Adrian Tomlinson (32pts, 10rbs, 4asts, 4stls), Alex Arthur (20pts, 3rbs)
Newtonbrook- Nigel Lebov (24pts), Masih Sadri (17pts)
Recap:
In the hostile environment of the Newtonbrook home gym (still not sure how that is considered a neutral site???) and playing without Taylor Johnston (sick) the Warriors played a strong 1st half and midway through the 3rd held a 20+ point lead with strong defensive pressure, execution and another strong performance by Adrian Tomlinson. Unwilling to let their season slip away, Sadrih and Lebov stepped up late and made a run. The Warriors however got stops and knocked down free throws late to pull out the win...
The team's overall record is 27-6, the next game will be Thursday Feb 26th vs. Eastern Commerce in the City Championship Game/OFSAA Play-In. (3pm at University of Toronto)
(Semi-Finals of City Championships/OFSAA Play-Ins)

Game #34- West Hill vs. Eastern Commerce
(City Championship/OFSAA Play-In)
Final Score:
West Hill- 41
Eastern- 51
Leading Scorers:
West Hill- Adrian Tomlinson (23pts, 4asts, 4stls), Alex Arthur (12pts, 5rbs, 2stls)
Eastern- Shamar Bennet (12pts), Marvin Binney (8pts)
Recap:
Playing in front of a packed gym at the U of T vs. the #1 team in Ontario the Eastern Commerce Saints, the Warriors were again shorthanded playing without 2 starters in Taylor Johnston (sick), and Michael Knight (Out of Country). Despite being without our starting front court and 2 biggest guys, the team showed great heart, hustle, and executed my game plan to a tee.
The game was a defensive struggle and we did our best to neutralize the size, strength and athleticism of the solid Eastern Saints. Another strong game by Adrian Tomlinson and Alex Arthur, and a great job by our young guys to step up and play big minutes...
Congrats to Eastern Commerce they are a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully we will see them again this season in OFSAA (if we make it past Silverthorn...)
The team's overall record is 27-7, the next game will be Monday Mar 2nd vs. Silverthorn in the OFSAA Backdoor game. (2pm at West Toronto)
(City Championship/OFSAA Play-In)
Final Score:
West Hill- 41
Eastern- 51
Leading Scorers:
West Hill- Adrian Tomlinson (23pts, 4asts, 4stls), Alex Arthur (12pts, 5rbs, 2stls)
