Coach, what are your thoughts about the Martingrove team?

Martingrove is a well Coached team, Shawn Gray is someone that I respect, and he and I have had many battles on the hardwood as players, so it will be interesting to match up as Coaches.
They have 7 players that returned from a 3A OFSAA team last year, so no doubt they are going to be tough.
As we learned last week vs. Laurier and Oakwood, any team can beat any other team in the GTA, so we will have to give a solid effort and play our best to get a W.
This week is big for us as last week was very disappointing. Got off to a great start yesterday with our best practice of the year and a 59 point win over Cedarbrae tonight...

Martingrove rarely goes down easy. Great win Warriors! Wow 2 in one day without both being in a tournament. That's rather unique.

Martingrove is a very strong, competitive team. No-one should under-rate there talent. I also like the match-up the speed(Martingrove) vs. the strength(West Hill). Great win coach! Good luck tomorow against Goatz.

Thanks guys, appreciate it...
Martingrove is definitely a solid team and they gave us a good run. Sound defensive team, with some talented guards in Matthew Wright and Justin Bakuteka...
Father Goetz looked good against Guelph Centennial earlier today, so should be a good match up tomorrow!
And yeah Respect, that was a scheduling glitch this season since we committed to the Mother Theresa Tourney before the Toronto East League schedule came out. (we tried to re-schedule the League game, but it wasn't an option)
Thanks for the support guys, GO WARRIORS!!

Game #26- West Hill vs. Mother Theresa
(Semi-Finals of Mother Theresa Tournament)
Final Score:
West Hill- 75
Mother Theresa- 86
Leading Scorers:
West Hill- Taylor Johnston (23 pts, 5rbs), Devaughn Williams (21pts, 4stls)
Mother Theresa- Maurice Walker (29pts), Ashton Khan (22pts)
Recap:
Extremely hard-fought game by both teams and guys truly left it all on the floor. With 2:23 left in the game it was a 4 point game, and it was tight battle throughout. Unfortunately execution down the stretch went in favor of MT despite some phenomenal effort defensively by our guys.
It was a solid Tournament overall for West Hill, and had a call or a bounce gone a different way, it would have been a different outcome.
Congrats to MT on a well played game and tournament.
Congrats to Taylor Johnston (West Hill) in being selected a Tournament All-Star along with Jacob Zorzella (Vaughan Rd), Josh Ogden (Carr), Sean Giscombe (Carr), Ashton Khan (MT) and MVP Maurice Walker (MT).
The team's overall record now stands at 21-5 (4-1 this week with wins over Cedarbrae, Churchill, Martingrove and Father Goetz). Next game will be vs. Jean Vanier in an Exhibition game scheduled for Jan. 21st...

Returning to the team and ready to make an impact will be Kevon Parchment, Michael Knight, Donte James, Janeil Brown, Andre Hamilton and Jamaal McLeggon. There will also be some talented Juniors moving up, so the team should be solid for sure for 2009-10 and beyond...

From what I remember reading, the game was not an official game. It was more of a practice scrimmage that was not officiated by sanctioned refs. In games like this, coaches try things out, mix & match lines, and generally don't care about the score.

Yep! That's very true! Means nothing.
Especially when they had an agreement.
Too bad there was a slip - its a matter of trust!

Why was the post about the Loyola game removed coach? First before the game you post it as a exhibition game then after you lose you say it was jus a scrimage. Now you remove your post with your details about the game?
Its ok its jus one loss.

Re: West Hill Warriors Basketball 2008-09
I asked Rick/Hooptown GTA to remove the posts regarding Loyola because it was a scrimmage that wasn't supposed to be made public.
There was a mix-up with the refs, so when no refs were available, the Loyola Coach and I agreed that it would be a scrimmage that would not be made public. (that's why I edited mention of it out of my previous posts...so thanks for removing that info rvd1018..)
He then made a call to the Toronto Star. Like I said in the previous post, the Loyola Coach made a mistake and sent me an e-mail to apologize, so there are no hard feelings.
If you look through all posts under this topic, I have no problem posting losses and have done so with all 5 of our losses on the season! But an unofficial scrimmage which we played without Taylor Johnston and Kevon Parchment and NO REFS is not an actual game...
Like Coach Clement said, it's a matter of trust. But I'm not going to make a big deal about it, it was an honest mistake.
If you want to know the details, we were up by 13 at Halftime, 11 after the 3rd, and then guys relaxed and let them back in the game...
As Coach C said, it means nothing and it was just a tune-up to get ready for the playoffs for both teams. It definitely did that, and Loyola is a tough team that didn't back down. Best of luck to them for the rest of the season.
